October 30, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

Welcome back to another NHL Predictions. Each day, our writers here at Last Word on Hockey look at the games and give in-depth analysis. Our team breaks down the key matchups, storylines, and stats, then makes predictions based on how they might play out. For this edition, we will look at the New York Rangers taking on the Edmonton Oilers. Don’t forget to check out more NHL Predictions, as our writers continue this series throughout the 2025-26 season.

NHL Predictions

Chicago Blackhawks vs Winnipeg Jets

2024-25 Season Series: Blackhawks 0-3 Jets

How to Watch:

U.S TV: Chicago Sports Network; ESPN+

Canada TV: TSN3

Time: 8 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)

Our first game of NHL predictions has the Chicago Blackhawks visiting the Winnipeg Jets. Chicago is expected to start Spencer Knight in goal, but always check social media before locking in a daily fantasy starter. The Blackhawks are off to a 5-3-2 start in their first 10 games. Connor Bedard recorded a hat trick on Tuesday night against the Ottawa Senators. Bedard is tied with Ryan Donato for first on the team in goals with six.

Connor Hellebuyck is the probable starter for the Jets, who are 7-3 in the first 10 games to start the season. Kyle Connor recorded his fifth goal of the season to help Winnipeg get a 4-3 overtime win over the Minnesota Wild. Mark Scheifele is first on the team in goals (8) and points (15) so far this campaign. Josh Morrissey is tops in the assist category with eight.

Both teams are coming off victories on Tuesday. However, Jonathan Towes’ new team will get a win over his old team.

Prediction: Jets win 4-2.

New York Rangers vs Edmonton Oilers

Head-to-Head: Rangers 0-1 Oilers

How to Watch:

U.S TV: MSG; ESPN+

Canada TV: SN1

Time: 9 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)

Our second and featured game of NHL predictions has the Rangers trying to build momentum against the Oilers. Igor Shesterkin is the projected starter, but Jonathan Quick is coming off a shutout against the Vancouver Canucks. The Blueshirts have struggled to put the puck in the net with an average of 2.18 goals scored per game. Adam Fox is first in assists (6) and points (9) for the Rangers. However, Mika Zibanejad is leading in goals with four.

Stuart Skinner is the probable starter for Edmonton, and he’s looking to repeat his shutout performance from October 14. The Oilers rallied past the Utah Mammoth to get the victory on Tuesday. Connor McDavid is putting up points with 14, including 11 coming off assists. Leon Draisaitl is leading the club in goals with eight.

The Rangers did look better in Vancouver. However, taking on the Oilers is a whole different animal.

Prediction: Oilers win 3-2.

Detroit Red Wings vs Los Angeles Kings

2024-25 Season Series: Red Wings 1-1 Kings

How to Watch:

U.S TV: Fan Duel Sports West; Fan Duel Sports Detroit; ESPN+

Time: 8 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)

Our final game of NHL predictions has the Detroit Red Wings visiting the Los Angeles Kings. Detroit is expected to start Cam Talbot in goal for this game. The Wings are off to a 7-3 start after 10 games, including wins in their last two. Dylan Larkin is first in goals (8), assists (8), and points (16) so far this campaign. However, he’s tied with Alex DeBrincat for first in assists.

Darcy Kuemper is the likely starter for the Kings, who have won two in a row. Los Angeles has gotten some important returns with Anze Kopitar and Corey Perry. Adrian Kempe is showing out in a contract year with five goals, nine assists, and 14 points.

Both teams are playing well, but Los Angeles gets the victory at home.

Prediction: Kings win 4-3.

Prop Bets of the Night

We close out NHL predictions with some prop bets of the night. Let’s go back to our featured game for our favourite props. The over/under for this game between New York and Edmonton is 5.5, and we think the under is the right play in this one.

As for individual props, go with Artemi Panarin to register an anytime goal for the Rangers. On the Oilers end of things, go with Evan Bouchard to get a power play point.
