NHL Predictions: November 20th St. Louis Blues vs Philadelphia Flyers

November 20, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

Welcome back to another NHL Predictions here at Last Word On Hockey! Everyday, we provide analysis, insights, and predictions for every NHL game. Tonight, the St. Louis Blues continue their five-game road trip with a stop in the city of brotherly love for a showdown with the Philadelphia Flyers.

NHL Predictions: St. Louis Blues vs Philadelphia Flyers

Time: 7:00 p.m. EST

How to Watch: FanDuel Sports Network Midwest, NBC Sports Philadelphia

2025-2026 Season Series: Flyers 1-0-0

With American Thanksgiving approaching, many general managers are starting to look at the standings and get a clearer picture of where they stack up around the league. With that said, all signs indicate a lot of mediocrity on the ice in Philadelphia for the intra-conference matchup between the Blues and the Flyers. Both of these teams come into tonight having lost three of their last four games.

While both teams have been able to get a point here or there, only one of them currently sits near a playoff spot. In the east, the Flyers are three points from third place in the Metropolitan Division and just one from the wild card. The Blues meanwhile, are six points behind Seattle for the final wildcard position in the West, and seven behind Winnipeg for third in the Central.

The Blues roll into Philly with one out of a possible two points on their current five game road trip. They fell Tuesday night  in overtime to the Toronto Maple Leafs, though they carried much of the play for the second and third period. While 3-2-3 in the last eight isn’t pretty, it is better hockey than the Blues were playing in the month of October.

Meanwhile, the Flyers have become somewhat of an average hockey team themselves. Much like the Blues this season, they have struggled to find consistency in the win column. With a similar 3-3-2 record in the month of November, Coach Rick Tocchet needs to see more from his club. In his 11 seasons as a player with Philadelphia, coach Tocchet knows all too well how quickly the points can disappear earlier on in the regular season.

Who Takes the Lead?

At the time of writing, Brayden Schenn is still the captain of the St. Louis Blues. Will that be different by Thanksgiving? Christmas? Only Blues GM Doug Armstrong truly knows.

A few weeks ago, coach Jim Montgomery made Jordan Kyrou a healthy scratch in their 3-0 win in Buffalo. Fans in St. Louis have seen this play from Blues management in the past. Not only were they trying to send a message to the players, but Armstrong could also be sending a message to other managers. Are the St. Louis Blues open for business well before this year’s trade deadline?

Fans and media alike have been demanding more from others and not just the St. Louis captain. Another name that has continued to appear is Pavel Buchnevich. The forward is on the first of a six year, $48 million contract. Through 20 games this season, he has two goals and seven total points. Is a forward who is on pace for eight goals worth $8 million a year? It is certainly getting harder for Doug Armstrong to justify…

Flyers are Rested and Hungry

Philadelphia has not played since a 5-1 thumping at the hands of the Dallas Stars last Saturday. The game prior to that? A 6-5 shootout victory over these very same St. Louis Blues. For the second time in the last six days, the Flyers are looking to take two critical points from the Blues. Last Friday, Philadelphia overcame a two-goal deficit, twice, by taking advantage of sloppy defensive play by St. Louis.

Owen Tippett had a goal and three assists that night while Trevor Zegras finished with two goals and a helper, while adding the only goal in the shootout to steal the extra point. Tippet had an assist on the only goal in Dallas on Saturday, giving him points in two straight coming into tonight.

Prediction:

Both teams desperately need to continue keeping pace in their playoff chase. The points are a little more important for St. Louis, given how wide the gap is for them compared to the Flyers.

Robert Thomas has arguably been the most consistent player for the Blues, when he’s healthy. He comes into tonight with points in three straight. Plus the pairing between him and rookie Jimmy Snuggerud is quietly becoming a high quality duo in the NHL.

Zegras and Tippett are going to try to ride their momentum through tonight. Of course Flyers fans would love another multi-point effort against the Blues. Tippett also enters tonight with nine points in ten career games against the Blues.

Philadelphia wins 4-2.

Prop Bets:

Books have the over/under set at 5.5. Predicting a 4-2 Flyers win, we will be taking the over at -108. We’re also looking at Owen Tippett as an anytime goal scorer at +220 for the Flyers. The Blues choices are a bit trickier. This may be a reach, but he has been playing some good hockey, so we are going to go with Justin Faulk to have an anytime goal at +800.
