Will Cuylle Signed to New Deal by New York Rangers
Cuylle has played for the Rangers over his three-year NHL career. The 23-year-old had a breakout season with the Blueshirts as he tallied 20 goals and 25 assists for 45 points in 82 games this season. He had a Corsi for of 48.8 and a relative Corsi of -1.3.
The Toronto native has 33 goals and 33 assists for 66 points in 167 career games. New York originally drafted him in the second round, 60th overall of the 2020 NHL Draft. Cuylle had a standout major junior with the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL.
He has also represented his native Canada at the international level. The youngster won a silver medal at the 2019 Ivan Hlinka-Wayne Gretzky Tournament. Cuylle was a gold-medal winner on the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship squad with Team Canada. He recorded two goals and two assists for four points in seven games during that tournament.
What It Means
The Rangers struggled last season, but Cuylle was one of the bright spots in that season. Cuylle reached the 20-goal mark for the first time in his career and he’ll likely see increased minutes with Mike Sullivan as the new head coach.
The young forward has drawn comparisons to Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson with his game. He’s a bruising forward that can add goals and throw his weight around.
There were some worries about finding money for Cuylle, but Rangers General Manager Chris Drury was able to make some moves in order to free up some money to pay Cuylle.
