New York Rangers Forward Vincent Trocheck Out Week-to-Week
Trocheck left with 13:10 left in the second period of the Blueshirts’ 4-0 shutout win over the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night. He was ruled out of the game in an announcement made by the team before the start of the third period.
The 32-year-old has an assist in the two games that he did play in early this season. Trocheck has logged an average of 14 minutes, 10 seconds of ice time so far this campaign.
He’s played for the Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, and the Rangers in his 13-year NHL career. The Pittsburgh native has 223 goals and 356 assists for 579 points in 803 career games. Florida originally drafted Trocheck in the third round, 64th overall, of the 2011 NHL Draft.
The injury ended Trocheck’s streak of appearing in 250 consecutive games without an injury. This was the 15th-longest current durability streak.
What It Means
Trocheck’s injury forced Mika Zibanejad to go back to the centre spot for Saturday’s win over the Penguins. Juuso Parssinen also drew into the lineup and moved onto the third line. The Finn logged an assist in his season debut.
Trocheck plays in all situations and is a versatile veteran for the Rangers. Head coach Mike Sullivan said Trocheck “plays in every situation, power play, the penalty kill, and a part of our top six.”
Alexis Lafreniere moved up to the top power-play unit with Zibanejad and Artemi Panarin for Saturday’s game. New York looked strong in the first game without Trocheck. However, the Blueshirts will definitely miss a key player.
