Philadelphia Flyers Re-sign Cameron York

Contract: Five Years
AAV: $5.15 million

The Philadelphia Flyers are bringing back left-shot defenceman Cameron York, who had been a restricted free agent. Well, he is no longer. According to Puckpedia, in that he didn’t currently have a deal, his new contract won’t expire until the summer of 2030.

York, 24, played 66 games for Philadelphia in 2024–25, registering four goals and 13 assists for 17 points, and 26 penalty minutes. He remained a steady presence in the Flyers’ top-four rotation, logging average ice time close to 20 minutes per game, and contributed both at even strength and on the penalty kill.

Cameron York’s Background & Development

Drafted 14th overall in 2019 by Philadelphia, York has steadily carved out a valuable role through a strong two-way game. The Southern California native began his career at the University of Michigan, where he led Big Ten defencemen in scoring (20 points in 2020–21) and earned awards for his defensive performance. Moreover, he made his NHL debut in 2021–22, and incrementally increased his point production each year, becoming a key fixture on the Flyers’ backend. Physically, York stands 5′11″ and weighs 194 lb, bringing mobility, puck-transition skill, and reliability in his own end.

What This Means for the Team

Retaining York ensures Philadelphia’s defensive core maintains consistency and familiarity heading into next season. His blend of youth and two-way acumen complements veteran partners, while his steady progression makes him a candidate for more prominent roles in the power play or top-four pairings. Furthermore, York is the kind of defenceman that a rebuilding team like the Flyers could build around and consider their core. This re-signing marks another step in the Flyers’ ongoing rebuild, signaling confidence in York’s role as a foundational defenceman.
