NHL Rumours: Update on Vancouver Canuncks Winger

February 23, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

NHL Predictions; NHL rumours

It’s time for another edition of NHL rumours. We’re nearing the March 7 trade deadline and that means the rumours are going to really crank up. Teams returned to league play after the Four Nations Face-Off, which means the focus goes back to the deadline. General managers face some decisions when it comes to some of their players. We could see some pending unrestricted free agents getting traded. However, we could also see some new contracts being signed.

One team that has a decision to make about an important UFA forward is the Vancouver Canucks. This edition of NHL rumours looks at that winger open to staying with the club.

All NHL rumours come from the original source and are subject to change.

NHL Rumours

Vancouver Canucks Forward More Than Willing to Stay With Team

Rumour: Canucks winger Brock Boeser discussed his future with the club. TSN posted video of that meeting and Boeser said he was open to staying with the team.

Analysis: The former University of North Dakota product is coming off a 40-goal season with the Canucks last year. However, he probably won’t repeat that career-high number of goals. Having a down year in a contract season may not be good for the Burnsville, Minn. native.

The Boeser trade rumours have become annual speculation. We’ve seen the soon-to-be 28-year-old’s name many times in our NHL rumours articles. Boeser would be a hot commodity and likely get a decent return should a trade ever happen.

Rumours are often just a name of the game and that’s especially true for players nearing the end of their respective contracts. The Canucks have already made a drastic change in dealing J.T. Miller to the New York Rangers. However, there could be some good news for Vancouver fans wanting Boeser to stay.

In the media availability, the American forward stated he would love to stay in the Pacific Northwest. “Yeah, I mean, I’ve said how much I love it here, and, you know, more than willing to come back. So we’ll see if we can figure something out,” Boeser said to the media.

What It Means

The Canucks really missed Boeser when he was out during the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season. He might be having a down year, but he can usually be relied on to get around 20-30 goals per season. Boeser is only three goals away from hitting the 200-mark for his career.

Some Canucks players like Elias Pettersson have had struggles this season. However, Vancouver has been turning it around as of late. Getting Boeser going would be massive to helping the Canucks secure a post-season spot.

Seeing Boeser return would be good for Vancouver because does some of his best work on the power play. Canucks General Manager Patrick Allvin could be banking on a bounce-back season next year from Boeser. The winger currently makes $6.65 million and is hoping for a raise.

However, there are a number of teams that could show interest in the forward. Boeser’s hometown Minnesota Wild could come calling since they’ll have a ton of money freed up this summer. Some of that will have to go to Kirill Kaprizov and his next deal. However, the Wild could give a chunk of that to the winger.
