The Boston Bruins are having one of the best regular seasons in NHL history, currently sitting in first with a 39-7-5 record. Although, many question the future of the Bruins’ with the team’s old yet seemingly ageless core, and now they are getting close to securing a piece of that core for even longer. A David Pastrnak contract is getting closer.

According to Emily Kaplan, the Bruins and David Pastrnak are getting even closer to a new deal, stating they are “financially close”. Although, this could mean they have an idea in terms of AAV but are still working out the term.
This also goes along with Pastrnak’s statement in the interview, saying there is “no rush, it’s the middle of the season. You’re focused on hockey and all.”
With the Bruins this season, Pastrnak has 72 points in 51 games and is on pace for 116 points this year, which will be his best season since his 95-point campaign in the shortened 2019-2020 season.
What This Means For The Boston Bruins And David Pastrnak
A David Pastrnak contract makes sense for the team. For the Bruins, this is almost necessary. considering the old core of David Krejci, Brad Marchand, and Patrice Bergeron is getting close to retirement, having an offensive star like Pastrnak who can take over the reins and lead them once they go will be key, and it would be monumental if they lose him in free agency.
Although he will be an expensive extension for Boston, he should be a Bruin for pretty much the remainder of his NHL career, considering he is getting closer and closer to 30. But, they have not agreed on a term yet, so it may turn out completely different than how we expected, so it very well may be a short-term deal to avoid free agency until they can agree on a new deal.
for now, Pastrnak seems to be only focusing on hockey, as Boston is one of the best teams in the NHL and Boston seems to be recording at a career-high pace.
