Connor Brown Signed by the New Jersey Devils
Brown has played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Ottawa Senators, Washington Capitals and Edmonton Oilers over his decade-long NHL career. The Toronto native had 13 goals and 17 assists for 30 points in 82 games last campaign. He recorded an average of 14 minutes and one second. Brown had a Corsi for of 46.2 and a relative Corsi of -9.5.
The 30-year-old has 107 goals and 151 assists for 258 points in 601 career games. Toronto originally drafted him in the sixth round, 156th overall, of the 2012 NHL Draft. Brown also registered five goals and four assists for nine points in Edmonton’s most recent run to the Stanley Cup Final.
He has also represented his native country on the international level. Brown won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2021 IIHF World Championships in Latvia.
What It Means
Brown has finally cashed in on taking a chance on himself. He took a one-year deal that was laden with incentives after tearing his ACL in 2022-23. The veteran stepped up and more than earned his keep in Edmonton.
Brown is a well-known friend of Connor McDavid, but he has done whatever he was asked to do with the Oilers. He signed another one-year deal last off-season. However, he now gets a chance to get some more money.
He’s a solid forward on the defensive end and has hit double-digit goals a few times in his career. Brown can be a very helpful addition to the middle to bottom six of a forward group that needs depth.
