Utah Mammoth Trio Has Quickly Become the Team’s Top Line

November 4, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

Every team in the NHL has a forward line that is expected to carry them offensively. For the Utah Mammoth, one trio in particular has exceeded expectations and are quickly becoming the team’s best line. Logan Cooley, Dylan Guenther, and JJ Peterka have been together for 12 games. Thus far on the campaign, they have shown no signs of slowing down. The strong play of this line was even enough for Mammoth general manager Bill Armstrong to recently extend Cooley for eight more years, which was a top priority. One question mark heading into the season was, how long it would take Peterka to mesh with his new linemates. So far, it’s been a fairly smooth transition. The three young forwards have carried the load for the Mammoth.

Cooley, Guenther, and Peterka Leading the Way Offensively for the Mammoth

Utah has been one of the hottest teams in the NHL to begin the 2025-2026 season. After having their seven-game win streak snapped, the Mammoth lost two straight and sit in third place in the Western Conference standings. The aforementioned three Utah forwards have been a big reason why the team is playing so well. Cooley, 21, Guenther, 22, and Peterka, 23, each already have ten or more points. They could very well be the most exciting and dynamic young line in the league.

Cooley, Guenther, and Peterka have spent (basically) every even-strength minute of the season together, 110 to be exact. The three have combined for 11 goals while on the ice, which is good for third in the NHL among all forward lines. As a line, they’ve also allowed only four goals against and are a +23 in shot attempts, 118 for and 95 against, or ninth. This is telling of just how dominant they’ve been while possessing the puck. All stats are according to moneypuck. The Mammoth certainly have a trio that can carry the play for 60 minutes each night.

The Line’s Strong Play Will Continue

Cooley already brings so much speed to this Utah team, but adding Peterka was the cherry on top. The German winger has given this line an entirely different gear, putting other defences on notice. Just based on this play, Peterka started the play with a quick transition and then used his speed on the forecheck to get the puck. Cooley then made a blind backhand pass to Guenther, who wired it to the top corner. It was a combination that was made possible because of Peterka, and the high hockey IQ of Cooley.

Seriously what do they feed this kid? Gunner stays hot!

Because of this line’s recent play, the Mammoth are off to their best start to a season in franchise history. Their chemistry on the ice has quickly transformed Utah’s offence into one of the most dangerous in the NHL. The Mammoth are ranked fourth in goals-per-game with 3.64, and eight in both shots on goal and shooting percentage. Cooley, Guenther, and Peterka have certainly contributed to those numbers in a big way. Odds are, the trio’s strong play will continue. In fact, expect them to get even better as the year progresses.

Up Next

After losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning at home, the Mammoth head on the road for a Tuesday night matchup with the Buffalo Sabres. Utah will be hoping to start another win streak and continue their impressive start to the year.
