The Winnipeg Jets Lock Down One of the Best Leaders

The Winnipeg Jets have some great news to announce. A centre, who happens to be the club’s captain, Adam Lowry, signs a five-year extension with the club. The contract carries an average annual value of $5 million. The deal means that Lowry doesn’t become an unrestricted free agent until the summer of 2030. This is a great move for the organization to reward Lowry for his hard work and leadership throughout his time in Southern Manitoba, the geographic centre of Canada.

Jets Captain Adam Lowry Signs Until 2030

Lowry has been a lifer within the Jets organization. He was originally drafted in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft 67th overall by Winnipeg. Following four years of junior, with the WHL’s Swift Current Broncos, he made the leap to the professional ranks. Furthermore, he even played with two AHL Jet affiliates, including the St. John’s Ice Caps and briefly with the Manitoba Moose. His first full season in Winnipeg was 2014-15. Moreover, since that time, he has appeared in 782 regular season contests and recorded 420 points. He’s also accumulated 24 points in 62 Jet playoff games.

What Is the Bigger Picture?

Lowry began his leadership role in 2022-23, as he wore an ‘A’ on his chest that year. Ahead of the next year, he was promoted to the captain, and has been that ever since. Lowry has been a leader on the ice and in the community for the Jets. He’s been around the game for his whole life, as he is the son of former NHLer Dave Lowry. As a middle-six forward, it was somewhat surprising when he was originally named the captain, however, his body of work speaks for itself. He knows what it takes to be captain in the NHL, and the Jets play speaks volumes.

At 32, and signing this deal, it is possible he retires as a Jet. He has been the perfect example of hard work and loyalty. This is a well-deserved deal for Lowry to sign, and one the Jets are smart to make. General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff shows that accountability remains an important part of this business that is hockey.
