The Calgary Flames have rewarded one of their solid, tough forwards with a new contract. The man affectionately known as Costco signs a new deal today, as Justin Kirkland is sticking around Calgary. It is a one-year deal, worth $900,000 average annual value. Definitely the type of deal to let him prove his worth for the upcoming NHL season for general manager Craig Conroy and crew.

Justin Kirkland Signs a New Deal With the Calgary Flames
Kirkland was originally drafted way back in 2014 in the third round by the Nashville Predators. Since then he’s basically been a career AHLer, playing for four teams. Moreover, he even had a quick stopover in the ECHL once upon a time. But in the past couple seasons now, he’s been earning call-ups to the show. He’s up to 30 career games over three seasons. This contract means he will be getting lots more time in the NHL this season.
What Does This Mean for Kirkland and Calgary
Furthermore, this contract truly is a reward for all his hard work throughout his professional hockey career. In 2024-25, he managed eight points in 21 games for the Flames. He’s a depth, energy guy. He brings a physical brand of hockey ever night. These are all traits that are a hit among the Alberta fanbase.
As Justin Kirkland signs, he seems to fit in with the Flames. He’s has good chemistry with Ryan Lomberg. Furthermore, that makes him an ideal piece for the clubs depth, physical, third and fourth forward lines. This seems to be a great match for organization and player. If Kirkland can reward his team with his play, and his team rewards him with opportunity, maybe next year he will set himself up for a big contract extension. Time will see, but there’s no reason to bet against Kirkland.
