Without a first-round pick tonight, Devils fans will be watching what other teams do, unless they get involved in a trade.
While the decentralized NHL Draft begins tonight, the New Jersey Devils are not slated to do anything tonight. Having sent their 2025 first-round pick to Calgary in exchange for Jacob Markstrom, they do not have a selection until tomorrow. However, this does not mean that nothing involving the Devils will happen tonight, and we will just have to watch to find out.
The Time: 7:00 PM ET
The Broadcast: TV — ESPN, Sportsnet, TVA Sports, Online — ESPN+
The Location: The Internet? This is a “decentralized” Draft, but it is officially hosted at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Per the release put out by the Devils, they will send a communications representative and a hockey operations representative to the draft, as dictated by the NHL.
The Devils’ Picks Tonight: None, barring a trade.
The AAtJ Draft Coverage: I wrote a lengthy piece on draft philosophy for the team this year, serving as a quasi-preview, while all 2025 NHL Prospect Profiles should be found here.
The Why You Should Follow This Even Without a Devils Pick Tonight: Everything that happens in this league affects the New Jersey Devils directly or indirectly. It affects how other teams evaluate themselves and who they decide are moveable or not. We might see players drafted tonight who turn into Devil-killers, or we might see a trade, or we might see players drafted by other teams who end up on the Devils years from now.
The Rules: No streams! Otherwise, please keep your comments respectful, as usual. React to anything that happens during Day One of the Draft tonight, or any pertinent rumors. Thank you for following along here at All About the Jersey.
