NHL Predictions: October 25th Colorado Avalanche vs Boston Bruins

October 25, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

Welcome back to another edition of NHL Predictions, right here at Last Word On Hockey. Each day, our writers look at the games and give in-depth analysis. Our team breaks down the key matchups, storylines, and stats, then makes predictions based on how they might play out.  The Colorado Avalanche (5-0-3) hit the road Saturday afternoon to take on the Boston Bruins (3-6-0) at TD Garden.

NHL Predictions and the Colorado Avalanche versus the Boston Bruins

2025-26 Season Series: Avalanche lead 1–0
Time: 3:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)

How to Watch: NHL Network, NESN

Location: TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts

Two Teams Trending in Opposite Directions

This Saturday matinee features two clubs moving in very different directions early in the season. These teams met just last Saturday in Denver, Colorado, where the Avalanche skated away with a 4–1 victory. In that matchup, Nathan MacKinnon led the way with two goals, while Artturi Lehkonen chipped in two assists.

Bruins’ Slide Continues

The Boston Bruins (3-6-0) saw their struggles continue Thursday night with a 7–5 loss to the Anaheim Ducks, extending their losing streak to six games. Once again, defensive breakdowns in their own zone proved costly.

Despite scoring twice in 25 seconds to tie the game, Boston immediately surrendered the lead just 30 seconds later, leaving Troy Terry wide open in front of Joonas Korpisalo. Poor coverage and missed assignments continue to plague the Bruins, leading to too many high-danger chances against. They will need to correct these issues if they hope to stay afloat in the competitive Eastern Conference.

Avalanche Rolling Into Town

The Colorado Avalanche (5-0-3) arrive in Boston unbeaten in regulation this season. They’re coming off a 5–4 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday. That was their second OT setback of the week after falling to Utah on Tuesday.

Nathan MacKinnon has been dominant to start the season, tallying six goals and 11 points in eight games. Moreover, Martin Necas leads the team with 12 points (six goals and six assists) and has been a perfect fit alongside MacKinnon.

Between the pipes, Scott Wedgewood has been rock-solid with a 2.33 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage, while starting all eight games so far this season. Rookie netminder Trent Miner will likely make his first start of the season in Boston, giving Wedgewood a night off.

NHL Predictions and the Avalanche vs Bruins

The Bruins will have their hands full against one of the NHL’s most balanced and dangerous teams. If Boston’s defensive-zone issues continue, the Avalanche offence could take this game over early.

Jeremy Swayman is expected to get the start for the Bruins and will need to be sharp to give his team any chance. The Avalanche are averaging 3.5 goals-per-game, while the Bruins are allowing 3.67. During their six-game skid, Boston has been giving up nearly five goals per game, a troubling number against an elite offensive team like Colorado.

The Avs’ top line of MacKinnon–Lehkonen–Necas has combined for 14 goals, and they could have a field day against a Boston defence that’s often out of position.

Prediction: Avalanche 5, Bruins 2

Prop Play of the Game:

Nathan MacKinnon as an anytime goal scorer is paying around +110. MacKinnon has scored in four straight games and is firing on all cylinders. He’s expected to find the back of the net once again when faced with a struggling Bruins defence.
