On the Erik Haula trade: “To me, acquiring assets at all for what should have been regarded as a pure cap dump instead of a meaningful acquisition by the Predators was a huge win. Hell, if the Devils were able to get rid of that contract without sending or acquiring anything at all, it would have been a win in my book. Getting a legitimately meaningful asset out of it — the fourth-round pick — is tidy, tidy work from GM Tom Fitzgerald.” [Devils’ Advocates]

Who will Tom Fitzgerald find for the backup goaltending spot? “Although Nico Daws performed well during his cup of coffee with the big club last season, the Devils will no doubt be looking for some veteran insurance in the event a) he’s not cut out for a full-time NHL job and/or b) injuries pop up in goal. “U.S. television ratings for the Stanley Cup Final rematch between the Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers declined from their first matchup a year ago. An average of 2.5 million viewers watched on TNT, with 2.8 million tuning in for the Panthers’ series-clinching Game 6 victory. The overall number on cable is down from 4.17 million last year when the final was on over-the-air TV on ABC and the lowest since Tampa Bay versus Montreal in 2021.” [Associated Press]
