“The Devils could go about this a few ways. They could attack a relatively weak free agent class and hope to restock their depth over time through the NHL Entry Draft (which is also weak this year), they could trade away some of their draft picks and prospects for players who may be available in the trade market, or, my favorite, they could get a little creative.” [Infernal Access ($)]
“(Lenni) Hämeenaho was one of the top scorers in the Finnish Liiga this season as a 20-year-old, finishing with 51 points in 58 games. The Liiga isn’t the highest-scoring league in the world, but Hämeenaho still finished 15th in scoring among all skaters. Gritsyuk is likely the more NHL-ready of the two prospects, given their ages, and that Gritsyuk played in a better league than Hämeenaho. But Devils fans should be excited for Hämeenaho, as he appears to have a bright future, too.” [Devils on the Rush ($)]

“Gary Bettman says the NHL’s two failed attempts at housing a team in Atlanta won’t prevent the league from considering the growing push to bring another expansion franchise to that market. The NHL commissioner made those comments just days after prospective Atlanta owner Vernon Krause told 11 Alive that his group was on the ‘homestretch’ of completing its formal expansion pitch.” [The Athletic ($)] [Sportsnet]
Could Lou stick around with the Islanders?
#Isles GM search, daily update (subject to change within minutes, of course):
— Nothing new on Holland/Gorton/Bergevin
— Possibility that Lou Lamoriello stays on as an advisor to new GM
— Could open door to a first-time GM with Lou still around to guide

An interesting moment:
“You can’t make contact with an official under any circumstances.”

Also from Winnipeg/Dallas:
League has discussed incident at end of second period between Mason Marchment and referee Graham Skilliter.
It is on-ice officials’ call to decide if that qualifies as an Abuse of Officials violation. The answer was no…so no further action

I’m still thinking about this stunner:
“This game is over, and the crowd is in stunned disbelief!”
“4-3 Vegas with 0.4 remaining in the game! A stunning victory for the Golden Knights!”
