Cody Glass scored a couple goals, but the Devils couldn’t find a tying goal in the third period on Sunday against the Jets. Winnipeg took a 4-3 win. [Devils NHL]
It’s officially ugly:
“The New Jersey Devils are seeking a trade for defenseman Dougie Hamilton. His agent, J.P. Barry, told The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun on Saturday that Hamilton won’t be in the Devils’ lineup now that Johnathan Kovacevic is available to play.” [The Athletic ($)]
“The New Jersey Devils’ 2025-26 season has been unraveling before our eyes over the last few weeks. There are different reasons for that. Injuries have been a factor; they can’t score goals, and Jacob Markström has been a liability in net. However, what if I told you that the 2025 offseason is a significant reason the Devils are in this situation? Had general manager Tom Fitzgerald cleared the necessary cap space during the offseason, the Devils’ 2025-26 season may look much different.” [Devils on the Rush]
There’s plenty to be negative about this season but this moment here shows the leadership that Nico provides for the Devils: [The Athletic ($)]

“The demarcation between buyers and sellers is still fairly murky with another trade freeze on the horizon starting Feb. 4 for the Olympics, although many front offices are in the midst of pro scouting meetings to start preparing for the March 6 trade deadline. As teams continue to chart their paths forward, we refresh the Big Board, adding 10 new names, including five in the top 11.” [The Athletic ($)]
Just a ridiculous, ridiculous play:
“The International Olympic Committee says it’s impressed with the new hockey arena for the Milan Cortina Games, even if parts of it still look like a building site. The Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena will be one of the focal points of the games next month with NHL players returning to the Olympics for the first time in more than a decade. However, the venue has also been the focal point of the buildup with construction delays and other matters causing concern. It is finally ready — or at least almost.” [Associated Press]
