This evening a Toronto native has signed a new contract. Centre Jack McBain signs a deal, and with it, an opportunity to show he’s on the right path, in terms of career trajectory. The Utah Mammoth have agreed to keep McBain around for five more years, at an average annual value of $4.25 million. The contract is set to expire in the summer of 2030. He’s already spent his entire four-year NHL career there. So, let’s figure out what it means.

Jack McBain Signs New Contract in Utah
McBain is a centre, with good size, who has been a regular contributor. He was originally selected by the Minnesota Wild in the third round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Next, he went on to play four seasons at Boston College for the Eagles. In his last season at BC, he kind of broke out offensively, with 33 points in 24 games. This helped put him on NHL maps. He debuted later that year with the Arizona Coyotes, where he has been all along, eventually making the move to Utah with the franchise.
What Does He Bring to the Lineup
As Jack McBain signs, it’s good to recognize his contributions to your lineup, even if he does so in a somewhat underrated fashion. In all, he played three full NHL seasons so far. The 6’4″ centre is already up to 241 career games, where he’s recorded 35 goals and 47 assists. Furthermore, he’s been remarkably consistent, recording 26 or 27 points, exactly, in all three full seasons.
His career average ice time is 13:28 and last season was his career-highest faceoff win percentage. He was able to hit 49.8%, which is a great sign for a centre in the NHL. Furthermore, McBain is a nice signing, who can take care of things on both ends of the ice. He does so in a bottom-six role, but given his size and skill set, can fill in other roles. This is a solid signing, that makes sense from a hockey-business operations standpoint.
