Pete DeBoer Fired by Dallas Stars
DeBoer had led the Stars to the Western Conference Final for three consecutive seasons. However, Dallas was eliminated by the Edmonton Oilers in the two series. It was he Vegas Golden Knights the Stars in the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The 56-year-old racked up a record of 149-68-29 record in 246 regular-season games over three seasons with the Stars. He posted a 29-27 record in 56 Stanley Cup Playoff games leading the club.
The Dunnville, Ontario native has also been a head coach with the Florida Panthers, New Jersey Devils, San Jose Sharks and the Golden Knights over his lengthy coaching career. He’s racked up a career-record of 662 wins, 447 regulation losses and 152 shootout/overtime losses in 1,261 career regular season games.
DeBoer has appeared in two Stanley Cup Finals as head coach with New Jersey in 2011-12 and San Jose in 2015-16. However, he’s not won a Stanley Cup as a a head coach.
What It Means
The rumours swirled that there was some discontent with the Stars in exit interviews. There were good results for DeBoer, but it seems that Nill wants to make a change to get a new voice leading the locker room.
The Game 5 loss seemed to bring up plenty of bad vibes. Dallas gave up some early goals, but the decision to pull goalie Jake Oettinger was questioned.
Neil Graham could be a name to keep an eye as he coaches the AHL’s Texas Stars. He doesn’t have NHL experience, but he’s been highly-touted in his development of younger players.
The Stars have plenty of success over the last few seasons. However, the team finally needs to break through a get back to the Cup Final at least.
