Today we are continuing taking care of business around the NHL and right here at Last Word On Hockey. Now, it is time to announce a signing from New Jersey. Depth centre Cody Glass signs a new contract extension today. This is a good deal from a hockey operational standpoint. Good job getting it done on the part of both sides. Moreover, the New Jersey Devils will keep him around for two years. The deal carries an average annual value of $2.5 million.

Cody Glass Signs a Contract Extension With Devils
In his previous deal, he was making $2.5 million per year. That was one reason he was a bit trickier to sign. However, in the end, the deal does seem simple, as it was similar to the previous one.
Glass is a Winnipeg, Manitoba product, who checks in at 6’3″. The Devils were his fourth NHL franchise when they acquired him, with the others being Nashville, Vegas, and Pittsburgh. He was a trade deadline acquisition by the Devils the past season. Furthermore, he has played six years in the NHL to this point.
What Does He Bring to the Devils
This most recent campaign was split between the Penguins and Devils. Combined he had six goals and 16 assists for 22 points. He averaged 13:39 of ice time and had a Corsi-for-percent-relative of 3.6 in even-strength situations. Furthermore, the Devils are aware of what they are getting in Glass. He is a solid, two-way depth guy. Teams that understand his upside, understand he plays a role in the matchup game. He won’t be mistaken as a top-line player. Conversely, when it comes to be the bottom six, he gets the job done. He does well at shutting down the opposition, as well as chipping offensively, from time-to-time. Finally, general manager Tom Fitzgerald should be pleased with his work here.
