The Jets own picks 42 and 73.
As we enter the second day of the NFL Draft, the Jets are primed to pick in both the second and third rounds for just the second time in the last five years. New York currently owns the 42nd and 73rd picks. Of course this could change if the team trades up or down.
The list of potential picks for the Jets is large. Given the current lack of quality pass catching options on the roster, we might guess that the Jets will lean towards wide receivers and tight ends. Of course, a prospect at another spot could be too good to pass up.
Here are some names who could be on the radar for the Jets on the second night of the Draft.
Elijah Arroyo, TE, Miami
With Jeremy Ruckert currently the top tight end on the roster, the Jets could use help at the position. Arroyo profiles as a move tight end who can use his athleticism to challenge a defense on multiple levels of the field. He won’t be a complete tight end. Blocking isn’t his strongest point, but NFL tight ends are judged more on receiving skill than anything else.
Luther Burden III, WR, Missouri
Burden has the ability to be an excellent after the catch guy in the NFL. He is dangerous with the ball in his hands. A creative coordinator will likely manufacture touches for him.
Nick Emmanwori, S, South Carolina
Emmanwori is big and fast and has plenty of highlight reel plays on his film. Safety isn’t the most glaring need for the Jets on paper, but the position isn’t really a strength either.
Jayden Higgins, WR, Iowa State
Higgins doesn’t have great deep speed. He, however, does have good size, flashes route running ability, and is challenging to bring down in the open field.
Will Johnson, CB, Michigan
Johnson spent much of the pre-Draft process as the consensus top cornerback prospect. He fell out of round one in part due to a reported knee issue. Without knowing the medicals, it’s tough to say how far he will fall. There could be a point where the talent is just too high to justify passing on him, even though cornerback isn’t the most immediate need for the Jets.
Tyler Shough, QB, Louisville
The Jets obviously aren’t committed to Justin Fields long-term. There is the possibility they could look to take a flier on a quarterback prospect on day two. Shough’s name has been mentioned in media circles as a possible option. I couldn’t really tell you what tools he has that would make him a viable day two prospect, though.
Mason Taylor, TE, LSU
Taylor is a crafty route runner who has the size to develop into a reliable target and adequate in-line blocker.
