Assembling a staff is one of the most important jobs of a head coach
While the head coach himself is undoubtedly important so are the coaches that he surrounds himself with. For potential New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn, this may be especially important given that he’s never held a head coaching position before and will likely need to lean on those around him for support.
Who might his supporting cast of coaches be? The answer to that question is reportedly beginning to take shape, at least according to Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports.
Sources: Aaron Glenn has landed back in Detroit, via Woody Johnson’s plane. No deal as of now, but sources say a substantial offer was made and the #Jets’ job “is his if he wants it.”

Based on that tweet, the structure would be:
- Head coach: Aaron Glenn
- Offensive coordinator: Mark Brunell
- Defensive coordinator: veteran defensive coordinator
- Special teams coordinator: Mike Westhoff
Overall, this is potentially a strong group. Brunell is a former quarterback turned quarterback coach who has been given credit for helping Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff turn his career around, while Westhoff is as decorated as a special teams coordinator gets. Beyond that, having a veteran defensive coordinator will likely allow Glenn to be a bit more hands-off on defense, allowing him to focus on his new responsibilities. Overall, this seems like an acceptable setup to me if the Jets were to hire Glenn to be the next leader of their franchise.
