As the 2025 NFL offseason gets underway, the NY Jets will have much to do to prepare for next season. One of the more prominent issues that New York will be facing is starting from scratch in the wide receiver room. While nothing is official or confirmed yet, it’s likely that if the Jets lose Aaron Rodgers, they will also lose Allen Lazard and Davante Adams with him. This leaves Garrett Wilson as, undoubtedly, Gang Green’s WR1 with just Xavier Gipson and Malachi Corley behind him.
The Jets will have to add multiple new wide receivers to their roster in the coming months to compensate for losing Adams and Lazard. Despite his age, Adams played a big part in the Jets’ offense this season when he arrived, and it’ll be tough shoes to fill. They will use free agency, the 2025 NFL Draft, and maybe even a trade to help them accomplish that goal. So, with what’s needed now known, what three wide receivers should the NY Jets target this offseason?
3. Tim Patrick, Free Agency
One of the most speculated wide receivers recently to come to the Jets this offseason comes to us in the form of Tim Patrick. For Patrick to find his way to the Jets, they would need to go out and spend some newfound money to sign him. This isn’t as outlandish of a move as you may think, as Patrick already has some ties to the Jets, and for ESPN’s Rich Cimini, it’s likely.
For over half a decade, Patrick played under new Jets GM Darren Mougey in Denver. Following his tenure with Denver, Patrick made his way to the Lions, where he crossed paths with new head coach Aaron Glenn and new offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand. Unfortunately, Patrick was injured in 2022 and 2023 with a torn ACL and torn Achilles, marking this past season as his first one back.
Patrick finished the season with 33 receptions for 394 yards. He also had three touchdowns. While injuries may make teams hesitant to sign Patrick, he is only 31 years old and could have a few good years left in the league. He’s familiar with how the team will be run and will likely be available for cheap since he played for the veteran’s minimum last season. This could be a good and safe move for the Jets to make this offseason to take some of the workload off of Wilson.
2. Tetairoa McMillan, 2025 NFL Draft
Another receiver the Jets could target could come to us with our first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. At Pick No. 7, Ryan Wilson and Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports each predict the Jets will take the Arizona star wide receiver. According to Pro Football Focus, McMillan is currently the No. 1 wide receiver prospect and No. 3 on the big board overall.
While it’s no easy feat, McMillan could be the best bet at replacing Adams. Similar to Adams, McMillan is a formidable outside threat. Standing at 6’5″ and weighing 212 pounds, McMillan has shown some excellence as a receiver throughout his time at Arizona. The agility he possesses at his size is outstanding, and he’s a YAC machine.
McMillan has a dream height and reach for a receiver that cornerbacks will not have an easy time defending. He would be a great compliment to Wilson’s speed and route-running. His one downfall is his explosiveness from the line, he has enough height, reach, and hops to get balls out of the air that most can’t. If they decide to draft a receiver in the 2025 NFL Draft, McMillan should undoubtedly be their guy.
1. Chris Olave, Trade
This last one is a bit of a question mark for a lot of Jets fans, myself included. However, you can’t deny that Chris Olave is one of the game’s better, young wide receivers. Olave was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft at No. 11 overall. In his rookie year, Olave quickly made himself known, as he eclipsed over 1,000 yards and four touchdowns.
His great play continued into the 2023 season where he played arguably his best to date. He finished with 87 receptions for 1,123 yards and five touchdowns. These were all career-highs. He also managed to play in 16 games, starting 11 of them, also career highs. Unfortunately, Olave is coming off a rough year where he suffered a setback due to a scary injury suffered in Week 9 where he had to be carted off the field with a concussion.
This was Olave’s second concussion of the season which wound up ending his 2025 NFL season. While there’s currently no timetable for his return, Olave is young and certainly could very well have his best years in front of him when he is able to come back to the field. His talent is undeniable, this is certainly a high-risk, high-reward trade for the Jets. Ideally, if the Saints would trade Olave for a fourth or fifth round pick, it seems like a no-brainer to me.
