The JetsFix 2025 Roster TUG OF WAR – Part 2

August 23, 2025 by Jets Fix

Due to the scheduling difficulties brought about by the truncated preseason and uncertainty over how soon after the last game the final cuts will leak, our usual four-leg roster relay wasn’t going to work in 2025. However, being the most innovative wedding contoversies/Star Wars blog on the internet, we’ve instead come up with a new feature: The JetsFix Roster TUG OF WAR. After 68’s submission last week, it’s up to this week’s guest writer to pull in the other direction. According to wikipedia, he is a dead former NFL wide receiver and Olympic relay gold medalist: Lam Jones…

Thanks to all, especially Bent, for the chance to rock your worlds with the most useless guess at the Jets roster found outside of A.I. or, since Tommie TSJC68, DEI King of Ffrance’s attempt last week. As Tommie used logic and a long, painstakingly developed understanding of scouting, positional value and NFL roster construction, it would be foolish to go any other way, yet our beloved statsman is never right. So the good news for me, is even without the talent and hard work that went into the last leg, I am nearly certain to be more accurate. Ladies and germs, your opening week 2025 New York Jets roster:

QB (2)
Justin Fields
Tyrod Taylor
cuts
Adrian “Gonzalez”
Brady Cook

“Chalk” here, if TT isn’t healthy for week one we will likely elevate a QB from the PS, I would expect both gents to be offered a spot with a slightly higher chance for Martinez to be squeezed out by a former Lion or a young released QB Engstrand liked from the prior handful of drafts

RB (4)
Breece Hall
Isaiah Davis
Braelon Allen
Kene Nwangwu
cuts
Donovan Edwards
Lawrence Toafili

Again, no change; top 3 backs are sufficiently versatile and complimentary, Nwangwu is a valuable KR. Expect both cuts to be offered a PS spot, but in what might be the biggest mistake this franchise will ever make, if only one gets asked to stick around it’ll be Toafili.

FB (1)
Andrew Beck

Beck seems to be as important to the offense as befits the first signing of Darren Mougey’s tenure as GM. One thing to watch here; he appears to be the type of vet with a guaranteed salary that we could waive him and still re-sign him for week 1; this would of course be to sneak a player through initial waivers (won’t be Donovan Edwards).

TE (3)
Mason Taylor
Stone Smartt
Jeremy Ruckert
cuts
Zack Kuntz
Neal Johnson

In the state of Louisiana, a donut with no holes is called a beignet and a TE with no holes is called Mason Taylor. Stone Smartt is an experienced “move” TE who can add versatility in 02, 12, 13, 22 and 23 groupings. Jeremy Ruckert, my neighbor here on strong Island, should not buy green bananas or pre-pay September’s rent. Of all the things in our near future, a new TE3 looks most likely. Zack Kuntz, at 26, apparently just isn’t going to cash in his winning genetic lottery ticket. Neal Johnson might be offered a PS spot but unless we can “get out” his brain into Kuntz’ body we are likely looking for an upgrade for the PS too.

WR (7)
Garrett Wilson
Arian Smith
Josh Reynolds
Tyler Johnson
Brandon Smith
Quentin Skinner
Jamaal Pritchett
cuts
Allen Lazard
Malachi Corley
Xavier Gipson
Ontaria Wilson
Dymere Miller

(Ed. Note: Changes since part 1 – Lazard out, B. Smith and Skinner in).

The Top 4 shouldn’t be very controversial, and with Irv Charles set to begin the season on IR-return there is at least a temporary spot open on the depth chart.

(Ed. Note: Charles is also eligible to remain on the PUP list)

Remember what I said about logic and intelligent roster construction? I get credit if Lazard gets cut, and if either of the camp standouts Brandon Smith and Quentin Skinner make the initial squad, and all I had to do is ignore those things. I have long suspected AG is looking to send messages in his first camp and there is ample reason to reward these guys at the expense of mediocre vets playing out a contract like Lazard. Yes, I know they would have cut him months ago if they were not going to keep him. Corley is NGMI, especially as the last regime’s draft pick and Gipson, while a good PS candidate, has limited snaps available to him on a team that expects to feed 3 RBs and will prioritize bigger WRs on the field more often.. As for Dymere and Ontaria, we (I) hardly knew you. Smith and Skinner will be the first guys out and onto the PS if a suitable veteran or two come our way via trade or waiver, as we all know

OL (9+1)
Joe Tippmann
Josh Myers
Alijah Vera-Tucker
John Simpson
Chukwuma Okorafor
Armand Membou
Olu Fashanu
Xavier Newman
Max Mitchell
+ Leander Wiegand
cuts
Carter Warren
Kohl Levao
Samuel Jackson
Marquis Hayes
Liam Fornadel

Wiegand sticks as our international exemption, and Woody gets to pay him peanuts because what’s Leander gonna do? ICE is everywhere these days.

(Ed. Note: Strictly speaking, Wiegand will be on the practice squad, but it’s correct that he won’t count against the 53-man limit or practice squad limit)

Warren is the most likely to stick but Max is more versatile and has played inside as well as both OT spots. Hopefully they have satisfied Myers as far as giving him a shot to win a job and we rarely see him on the field. Fingers crossed that we finally get even average NFL games and snaps played from our starters this season. I skipped the BGAs on these other guys, your guess is as good as mine if they will be worth adding to the PS. I suppose they can’t all be skill guys.

ST (3)
Nick Folk
Austin McNamara
Thomas Hennessy
cuts
Harrison Mevis

Gunners and returners slotted elsewhere, thiccer kicker to the PS if he’ll stay

DL (9)
Quinnen Williams
Jay Tufele
Harrison Phillips
Jowon Briggs
Will McDonald IV
Micheal Clemons
Tyler Baron
Leonard Taylor III
Derrick Nnadi
cuts
Eric Watts
Braiden McGregor
Kingsley Jonathan
Michael Fletcher
Fatorma Mulbah
Payton Page
Rashad Weaver – waived/injured
Byron Cowart – IR

(Ed. Note: Changes since part 1 – Phillips, Briggs, Nnadi in, Cowart, Watts out).

This is obviously a lot more guesswork than some other groups, as we just added 2 guys through trades, making it clear there are DL in camp that WOULD OF made the team but Moug and AG determined the top 9 weren’t as good as we needed. LTIII has flashed last season and in pre-season games and should stick. Hopefully AG and staff can teach Clemons how to set an edge. PS spots should be offered for Mulbah, Watts and McGregor

LB (5)
Quincy Williams
Jamien Sherwood
Jermaine Johnson
Jamin Davis
Marcelino McCrary-Ball
cuts
Francisco Mauigoa
Zaire Barnes
Ja’Markis Weston
Boog Smith
Jackson Sirmon

(Ed. Note: Changes since part 1 – Mauigoa out).

Don’t look at me, the Jets list JJ as an LB. Went with 4 proper OBLB, partly because AG’s defense in the last seasons saw LB3 on the field for far fewer snaps than we might be accustomed to, and the dude who’s name I forget actually lined up at EDGE for a lot of them due to Detroit’s lack of healthy EDGEs. Maugoia is a lock to be offered a PS spot and one of Weston or Barnes might also be on the PS (and elevated a few times early) for “teams.”

DB (10)
Azareye’h Thomas
Qwan’tez Stiggers
Brandon Stephens
Isaiah Oliver
Sauce Gardner
Michael Carter II
Malachi Moore
Andre Cisco
Tony Adams
Jarrick Bernard-Converse
cuts
Jordan Clark
Jarius Monroe
Dean Clark
Bump Cooper – waived
Tanner McCalister
Mario Goodrich
Kris Boyd – IR

(Ed. Note: Changes since part 1 – Boyd, Monroe out, Bernard-Converse in).

Big strong guy comes up to me, tears in his eyes, and says “Sir, I am not just trying to be different from 68 here.” True story. I think JBC sticks after a strong camp with ability to fill in at safety and CB. Seriously.

That is 53: We have waived a few guys already, might not have mentioned them all in the cuts.

IR-return before week 1 (max 2)
Irv Charles
Kris Boyd

(Ed. Note: As noted before, Charles may end up on PUP. Boyd is actually ineligible to return as he is already on season-ending injured reserve, so these two spots could be used on others)

Guy we might waive Beck to use an in-season IR-return slot (6 more in season)
Byron Cowart

Guy we might just cut if Cowart is nearly ready to play
Derrick Nnadi

PS predictions:
Adrian Martinez
Brady Cook
Lawrence Toafili
Xavier Gipson
Carter Warren
Francisco Mauigoa
Eric Watts
Braiden McGregor
Fatorma Mulbah
Harrison Mevis
Jordan Clark
Jarius Monroe
Dean Clark
TBD not in camp
TBD not in camp

Thanks again to Lam for his submission. Cuts should start to leak soon, so make sure you stick around between now and the Tuesday 4pm ET deadline so we can keep you updated. Your Bollinger Bowl analysis will follow this afternoon…
