The Jets’ Mike White-led passing attack looks to be in for another big game

December 1, 2022 by Empire Sports Media

Mike White is the talk of the town in New York Jets land right now. Following a 315-yard, three-touchdown game that propelled the Jets to 31 points and a victory, much excitement surrounds what the 27-year-old signal-caller can potentially accomplish moving forward.

Looking no further than this week, the Jets are set to compete against a terrific 9-2 Minnesota Vikings football team on the road in what looks to be the game of the week across the NFL. In a hostile environment, it will be a great challenge for White and the Jets.

When reviewing the Vikings, and in particular, their pass defense, it looks as if the White-led passing attack for the Jets could yet again be in for a big day.

  • Do the New York Jets have yet another promising rookie running back on their hands?

The opportunity is there for the New York Jets’ passing game to exploit the Vikings:

For starters, the Vikings’ defense ranks 31st overall in football, allowing 390.7 yards per game. And from there, their pass defense ranks even worse as the 32nd-ranked unit in the league. The pass defense of the Vikings is giving up an average of 276.1 yards per game. Comfortably, ranking last by nearly 10 whole yards.

Taking things even further in-depth, the Vikings have the 31st-ranked completion percentage allowed, at 69.3%. They are also last in yards per attempt given up, with 7.8.

The two lone regards where the Vikings’ pass defense has attained some success is with the big splash plays. Their pass rush, anchored by a top-tier edge duo of Danielle Hunter and Za’Darius Smith, has picked up 29 sacks, which ranks 14th. They are also tied for seventh when it comes to interceptions, with 10. So while the yards and opportunities for big plays will probably be there, White will have to make sure to not get greedy and give the Vikings the ball.

As mentioned, the chances to accumulate yards will be there for the Jets’ passing attack in Week 13. The Vikings will play tons of zone coverage, giving the Jets pass-catchers room to roam all day.

The Vikings rank in the bottom six of the NFL when it comes to running all types of man coverage.

When it comes to playing Cover-2 Man, the Vikings have run it the 27th-most in football this year. They are 29th in Cover-0, 30th in press coverage, and 31st in Cover-1.

#Vikings secondary/coverage tendencies are interesting… Zone coverage, free access, and open WRs all over this defense. Allowing a ton of yards and explosive pass plays

They DO NOT want to play man coverage.

Cover 1 – 31st
Cover 0 – 29th
2-Man – 27th
Press Coverage – 30th

The Jets happen to have an incredible group of skill players who can generate big plays, and many could be in for a field day.

At wide receiver, Garrett Wilson has firmly established himself as the number one target. Hopefully, Elijah Moore just continues to build on his first big outing of 2022 a week ago. Also, Tyler Conklin will be heading back to Minnesota, where he spent the first four years of his career.

The Jets have the talent and now the perfect opportunity for many of their receivers to have tremendous days.

Leading this offense in his second week, White will once again have to simply be the effective distributor that he was a week ago. If so, the chances White has yet another big game for the Jets are more than probable.
