The Jets needed to make a roster move to create room for the two trade acquisitions yesterday. They already had a spot open because of Kris Boyd going onto injured reserve but here’s the other:
The Jets have released DT Phidarian Mathis, per source. Comes one day after they acquired DTs Harrison Phillips and Jovon Briggs in trades. #Jets

The Jets took a flyer on Mathis late last season and then brought the former second round pick into camp this summer but he hasn’t made much of an impact and was obviously surplus to requirements with two new defensive tackles added yesterday.
