Funny how things work out for the New York Jets sometimes, isn’t it? With news of Aaron Rodgers agreeing to terms with the Steelers on a 1-year deal, it now sets up quite a bit of drama for week 1. The re-building Jets facing the always playoff contending Steelers. While the two teams may not be natural rivals, you’d better believe Aaron Rodgers will see things differently.
The last time Rodgers was in the building at 1 Jets Drive it was to be told by Jets brass that they didn’t think he had it anymore. Despite his desire to come back, the team wanted to move on. Deep down Rodgers knows that’s just the business side of the NFL, but you’d better believe he took things personal.
In fact, Rodgers said publicly that he didn’t appreciate the Jets having him fly out on his own dime only to be told within his first few minutes that his services were no longer needed.
Instead, the Jets moved on to former first-round pick Justin Fields. While nowhere near as accomplished as Rodgers, Fields offered a far younger and more mobile option under center. A key consideration as Glenn was known to be in search of a QB who was a legitimate threat to run.
NFL schedule makers knew exactly what they were doing when the pitted the Jets against the Steelers to open the season. So for Aaron Glenn, it’s a chance to show he made the right move, while Rodgers hopes that for at least one day, they second-guess their decision to send him packing.
