Jets fans were reminded today that they just can’t have nice things as right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker suffered a “significant” arm injury that will put him on the shelf for a yet to be determined time frame.
The report initially came from Diana Russini of The Athletic who also said surgery is an option as the Jets look to get another opinion.
This marks Vera-Tucker’s third major injury in four years, meaning he can likely rule out a long-term deal which Aaron Glenn suggested could be in the works just over a month ago. The former first-round pick was due to play this season under his fifth-year option.
With Vera-Tucker out, the Jets will likely turn to Joe Tippmann to kick out to guard with Josh Myers set to start at center.
This would make backup interior lineman Xavier Newman a more important part of the 53-man roster as he’ll now be the primary backup at multiple spots.
