The 2022 New York Jets season concludes in roughly 24 hours. It means that now two full years as the Jets’ head coach are in the books for Robert Saleh.
Through his first two seasons leading the Jets, Saleh has an 11-22 record without a playoff appearance after an epic collapse to end this year. With the Jets on a five-game losing streak and dropping six of seven, it has led some to speculate whether or not Saleh’s job should be safe going into 2023.
Per NFL Insider Peter Schrager of NFL Network and Fox Sports, Saleh’s job is indeed safe.

Robert Saleh’s job with the New York Jets is safe going into Week 18:
On The Bill Simmons Podcast this week, Schrager stated the following on Saleh’s job security with the Jets.
“I have it on good intel that Robert Saleh’s job is safe. … If they win, they get eight wins and you would’ve said you would’ve signed up for that anyway. If they lose, they finish with seven wins so I think you would’ve said you would’ve signed up for that. I know it wasn’t the way they wanted but I believe Saleh is safe.”
While the end of this season was a disaster, Saleh did prove some noticeable progress en route to the Jets’ 7-4 start to the year, deserving of a third year.
The key for Saleh and the Jets going into the 2023 season, a year in which they will likely have to make the playoffs, will be the quarterback position. It seems highly unlikely that the team will be counting on Zach Wilson as the starter.
If the Jets can acquire a veteran quarterback this offseason who can provide them with consistency, the talent on this football team is in place for Saleh to keep progressing in year three.
