Good morning, Gang Green Nation! I hope you’re all having a great start to the day. Heartbreaking news, as Jets Assistant Coach Greg Knapp was struck while riding his bicycle yesterday and is in critical condition. Thoughts and prayers to him and his family.
The Jets have hired Jay Whitmire to be their manager of football analytics. Whitmire is formerly of the Steelers and was their head of analytics. As a person who still holds a strong grudge towards the Steelers, I’m happy about this move. Analytics themselves are an important part in telling a story in a non-biased way, and Whitmire has proven in short time that he’s able to handle a lot of responsibility. The Jets haven’t had many players that are loved by analytics either, so this seems like a move that could bring in more consistent players going forward. Though film is very important, analytics help provide a description behind the scenes to help gather information on prospects and players in order to help formulate the cores’ prognosis.
