Good morning Gang Green Nation! News came yesterday that the New York Jets were releasing veteran punter Thomas Morstead and signing punter Kai Kroeger, a 2025 undrafted free agent out of South Carolina. That leaves the Jets with a two man competition at punter between Kroeger and Austin McNamara, a 2024 undrafted free agent out of Texas Tech. Neither Kroeger nor McNamara has ever punted in an NFL game.
The release of Morstead leaves the Jets with just four players currently over 30 years old: Tyrod Taylor, Josh Reynolds, Thomas Hennessy and Greg Zuerlein. Taylor is the Jets’ backup quarterback and his roster spot is probably safe. The other three 30+ players on the Jets roster may be fighting for their NFL careers in training camp as the Jets continue a major roster make-over, getting much younger to start the Aaron Glenn era.
