The New York Jets enter the 2025 NFL season with plenty of change and less hope compared to the Aaron Rodgers seasons. With Aaron Glenn stepping in as head coach and new starting QB Justin Fields under center, the team is clearly in reset mode. And while expectations are tempered, early projections from sportsbooks peg the Jets’ season win total at 7.5, which feels like a fair number. The bigger question is: can the Jets hit the over?
The answer depends on how much faith you have in the new leadership and how much improvement can be made from last season’s 7–10 campaign. Glenn is expected to bring energy and discipline to a defense that already ranks among the better units in the league. If Fields can stabilize the quarterback position and avoid the injury bug that has plagued the Jets for years, then eight wins isn’t a pipe dream. In the NFL today, you can win 9 games, make the playoffs, and still be a mile away from Super Bowl contention.
The Jets schedule is coming on May 14th. While we wait for the official dates and times, we already know the opponents, and that alone gives us a foundation to project potential wins and losses. They play the AFC South and NFC South in 2025, which includes games against the Titans, Colts, Texans, Jaguars, Falcons, Panthers, Saints, and Buccaneers. There are also additional matchups against the Steelers, Broncos, Vikings, and Raiders. And of course, they’ll play their six divisional games against the Bills, Dolphins, and Patriots.
This year’s schedule rotation works in the Jets favor. The NFC South is a weak division overall, with every team either rebuilding or still searching for consistency. The Panthers and Falcons remain question marks, the Buccaneers are led by Todd Bowles, and the Saints have struggled with inconsistency. Winning three out of four in this division is very possible.
In the AFC South, the Texans and Jaguars are formidable with rising star quarterbacks and playoff aspirations. But the Titans and Colts could be vulnerable, especially if the Jets defense plays up to its potential. A split here feels like a fair prediction.
The Jets also catch a break by getting the Broncos and Raiders outside of their division, two teams with plenty of question marks of their own. Can the Broncos repeat the success that they had last season? The Raiders are always unpredictable.
Divisional games are always tricky, but if the Jets can sweep the Patriots and steal one game from either Miami or Buffalo, they’re in a great position. That’s potentially three wins right there, and if they go .500 against the South divisions, win a couple of the toss-ups, and protect home field against a team like the Broncos, they can get to eight.
It’s not an easy path, but it’s not unrealistic either. Everything hinges on quarterback play. If Justin Fields can manage the offense, take care of the ball, and use his athleticism to extend drives, he could be the missing piece the Jets have been searching for. Pair that with a top-10 defense and improved offensive line play, and you have a team that can surprise people.
Fans looking to make an early call on the season are already turning to options like sports betting bitcoin to get in ahead of the schedule release. It’s a calculated risk, much like believing in the Jets, but one that could pay off if the pieces come together under Aaron Glenn’s leadership.
For now, cautiously penciling in the over is probably considered a homer move, what do you think?
