This summer, I am trying something new with film breakdowns of college prospects as they enter their draft eligible seasons, so we are breaking into the 2026 NFL Draft class. First up, naturally, has to be someone from the state of South Carolina as I’ve recently moved here, so Gamecocks quarterback LaNorris Sellers – a redshirt sophomore entering his 3rd collegiate season — is who we will discuss first.
A former 3-star recruit, Sellers only attempted 4 passes in 2023 (completing all four for 86 yards and 2 touchdowns), but became a full year starter for Shane Beamer’s offense in 2024, starting in 12 of 13 games last season. The 20-year old completed just over 65% of his passes (65.6%), with 2,534 yards and an 18/7 TD:INT ratio. He did, however, have 11 fumbles in 2024 according to PFF, which certainly needs to be cleaned up. On the ground, Sellers had 674 yards and 7 TDs, with an average of 4.1 yards per carry, including 26 runs of 10+ yards and 47 missed tackles forced.
When diving into the All-22 from his redshirt sophomore season in 2024, a lot of great things pop off the screen with Sellers. First, his athleticism is off the charts, with a unique ability to leave the pocket and pick up huge yardage on the ground. But even better than that, he consistently keeps his eyes downfield to look for an open receiver before finally deciding to run, which is a very translatable trait to the NFL level. His accuracy, however, needs some improvement, missing several passes high of his target. His deep ball also needs some work, but Sellers certainly has the arm talent to make all the throws, even when forced to throw off-platform. He showed plenty of promise during the back half of his age 19 season for the Gamecocks.
Overall, LaNorris Sellers may not be in line for the pre-season QB1 ranking, but with a strong 2nd year as the Gamecocks starter he could easily be considered in the top of the class by season’s end. His combination of size and athleticism will be coveted by many NFL decision-makers, and showing the ability to be more consistent as a passer will go a long way in helping Sellers soar up the draft boards in 2025.
