Whitt is currently in his first season as the Washington Commanders defensive coordinator. His unit forced five turnovers in their recent win over the Detroit Lions in a 45-31 final, which put Washington in the NFC Championship game:

Whitt, 46, interviewed with the Jets on Sunday, the day after the Commanders’ upset win over the Lions. He became the 16th candidate to interview with New York.
While earning an conversation, the Commanders defense was a middle-of-the-pack unit in 2024.
Their yards per game sat at 327.9 (13th) and points allowed on average was at 23.0 (18th). Washington’s 17 takeaways were tied for the fewest in the league, along with six other teams, including the Jets.
Whitt’s current DC role is the first time he’s held that position in his coaching career, which dates back to 2007. Whitt followed Washington head coach Dan Quinn to the Commanders when he was named head coach this past offseason.
