Joe Flacco and the Jets have been talking and have a mutual interest in the quarterback’s return, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.
Flacco, an impending free agent, has spent parts of the last two seasons as a Gang Green backup. A brief departure to Philadelphia interrupted his Jets career before New York traded for the veteran last season.
Flacco, 37, played in five games for the Jets in 2020 and added two more appearances in 2021. He totaled a 57.4 completion percentage, 1,202 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions. The Jets went 0-5 in Flacco’s five starts, though he hasn’t had much talent to work with.
Robert Saleh already said that he wants Flacco and fellow backup Mike White to return in 2022 so that the Jets have plenty of insurance behind Zach Wilson. White is a restricted free agent.
