As you know, we ran a series of polls in July to try to assess what might happen during the 2025 season. It’s now time to see how well you did.
Let’s see how closely your votes reflected what actually happened:
Will the Jets make the playoffs?:
Most popular choice – No
Outcome – They did not make the playoffs.
Verdict – Correct! Never let it be said that Jets fans are delusional.
What will be the result on opening day?:
Most popular choice – Close win for the Jets
Outcome – It almost was, and probably should have been, but ultimately the Steelers rode the luckiest bounce in NFL history and a 60-yard field goal to get the 34-32 win.
Verdict – Wrong! Close though, on both fronts.
Who will lead the Jets in receiving yards?:
Most popular choice – Garrett Wilson
Outcome – He played just five full games and parts of two others but somehow Wilson’s 395 yards led the team.
Verdict – Correct! and surprisingly so, given the circumstances.
Who will return lead the team in special teams tackles?:
Most popular choice – Irv Charles
Outcome – The actual leader was Ja’Sir Taylor, although he had some of those tackles before getting traded to the Jets. Mykal Walker made the most special teams tackles as a Jet.
Verdict – Charles and the only other player to get more than one vote, Kris Boyd, didn’t get a single snap all year and the leaders weren’t even on the team ahead of camp, so although you didn’t get this one right, it’s only fair to give Partial Credit!
Which former draft pick will get cut?:
Most popular choice – Zack Kuntz
Outcome – Kuntz, who was also the top choice in this category last year, was indeed cut.
Verdict – Not only was Kuntz cut, but your top five choices (also including Zaire Barnes, JBC, Carter Warren and Malachi Corley) were ALL cut. That’s gotta be treated as Correct – with a bonus point!
Which non-wideout will lead the team in catches?:
Most popular choice – Breece Hall
Outcome – Among non-wideouts Mason Taylor led the team with 44 catches, eight ahead of Hall.
Verdict – Wrong! Hall’s pass catching production was way down and Taylor easily out-reception’d him despite missing four games.
Who will lead the team in sacks?:
Most popular choice – Will McDonald
Outcome – McDonald led the way with eight sacks, twice as many as anyone else.
Verdict – Nailed it. Correct!
Which Jets will be pro bowlers this year?:
Most popular choice – Wilson
Outcome – No Jets made the pro bowl.
Verdict – Considering Wilson got hurt when he might have been on course to make his first pro bowl, and that you guys had Quinnen Williams (who DID make it, albeit with Dallas) just one vote behind him, let’s call this one Correct!
Which offensive player will have the most 100-yard games?
Most popular choice – Hall
Outcome – Hall led the way with four 100-yard rushing games.
Verdict – The more interesting aspect to this category was that the Jets only had one non-Hall 100-yard game – by Adonai Mitchell. Either way, Correct!
Who will be the most improved player on defense?:
Most popular choice – Leonard Taylor III
Outcome – From the choices in the poll it’s tough to anoint anyone. Qwan’tez Stiggers, maybe?
Verdict – Somehow you guys picked someone who was released and yet he ended up with a game-winning play to help his team make the Super Bowl, so kinda Correct!
Which new addition will be the biggest disappointment?:
Most popular choice – Brandon Stephens
Outcome – Stephens was actually pretty good!
Verdict – C’mon guys, this was Justin Fields. It was always going to be. Wrong!
Which 2024 Jet will have the best year with his new team?:
Most popular choice – DJ Reed, tied with “Don’t care”
Outcome – Reed was fine but it was probably Davante Adams, who had one fewer vote and 14 touchdown receptions.
Verdict – Did we care, though, really? Probably not. Therefore: Correct!
Who will have a thousand-yard season in 2025?:
Most popular choice – Hall, tied with Wilson
Outcome – Hall did it and Wilson was on course until he got hurt. Unquestionably Correct!
Who will be the most improved player on offense?:
Most popular choice – Olu Fashanu
Outcome – It was either Fashanu, or Jeremy Ruckert, who was your second choice.
Verdict – Let’s be real – Ruckert was better but still kinda mid. Fashanu is definitely the Correct choice here.
Who will lead the Jets in defensive penalties?:
Most popular choice – Brandon Stephens
Outcome – Four guys were ahead of Stephens, who had just three. Jarvis Brownlee led the team with six despite not being with the team at the start of the season and being limited to seven games.
Verdict – Way off the mark here, as Stephens was one player who exceeded expectations. Wrong!.
Which rookie will play the most snaps on defense?:
Most popular choice – Malachi Moore
Outcome – Moore not only led all rookies in this category, he was third on the team with 949.
Verdict – No doubt about this one. Overwhelmingly, Correct!
Who will lead the team in interceptions in 2025?:
Most popular choice – Andre Cisco
Outcome – Cisco suffered a season-ending injury in week eight at which time he had just one pass breakup.
Verdict – The fact this category even exists is depressing as hell.
Wait, though, strictly speaking Cisco was equal first with zero. Then again, so was Gérard Depardieu. Still…Correct!
Which offensive lineman will give up the most sacks?:
Most popular choice – Armand Membou
Outcome – Despite a great season, Membou did “win” this category, as he ended up two ahead of Olu Fashanu with eight.
Verdict – Correct! No doubt about it, you nailed this one.
Which UDFA will have the biggest impact in 2024?:
Most popular choice – Jamaal Pritchett
Outcome – Pritchett didn’t even get on the field.
Verdict – Tragically it was probably Brady Cook, albeit that his impact was mostly negative. Guys like Quintin Skinner and the Claks had a minor role. Can’t give you this one. Wrong!
How many regular season games will the Jets win?:
Most popular choice – Tied between 10, seven and six.
Outcome – The Jets ended up 3-14.
Verdict – Although “three wins or less” got zero votes, you deserve credit because the prediction was a THREE-way tie. Correct!
Who will lead the Jets in offensive penalties?:
Most popular choice – Armand Membou
Outcome – Officially, Membou was tied with John Simpson on 11, but only had eight accepted to 11 for Simpson, who you guys had picked for this poll in 2024. PFF has Simpson with 10 and Membou on 11, though.
Verdict – Let’s go with PFF this time. Got it again… Correct!
Who will score the first Jets touchdown of the season?:
Most popular choice – Justin Fields
Outcome – It was actually Garrett Wilson.
Verdict – Fields threw the pass, though. Clearly not what you meant, but screw it: Correct!
Are you ready for some football?:
Most popular choice – Yes
Outcome – Maybe in a way, the Jets were more ready for the start of the season than they were for the rest of it.
Verdict – This deserves credit. Correct!
The Final Verdict out of a possible 23 points:
18.5 points scored
8 last year, 18.5 record.
Incredible. A new record. But try and do better the next time…
