JetsFix Mailbag 2025: Part Two

June 13, 2025 by Jets Fix

It’s time for the 2025 JetsFix Mailbag, which will run in three parts over the next few weeks. Remember, the idea is for everyone to ask one Jets/NFL question and one non-NFL question, a rule which many of you – as always – failed to adhere to. Here’s part two:

What is your prediction on contract extensions for GW and Sauce? Do you think one or both (or neither) get done this summer and what would be your predicted number?

I think they’ll get them both done. Here’s the issue though…

Sauce is going to want to beat Stingley to be the top paid cornerback. Does he deserve this? Arguably not, coming off a down year and with his notoriously low turnover numbers, but that argument probably isn’t as persuasive as the case for him to warrant a deal that matches or exceeds that of Stingley. Quibbling over $1-2 million per year probably isn’t worth the hassle so the Jets probably will (and should) give him a deal that’s either the same or a notch above Stingley’s. Let’s say he has a chance to sign a contract for $31 million.

Unfortunately, the Wilson negotiation may cause an issue here. Cornerbacks being paid less than wide receivers has been a bugbear of Gardner’s for a while and there’s a situation looming where the Jets’ very good but not pro bowl level wide receiver is going to get a bigger contract than Gardner who sees himself as not only pro bowl worthy but also legitimately elite.

Wilson can’t realistically command Ja’Marr Chase money ($40 million), but he’s likely to want more than DK Metcalf, which would give him $33 million per year. That’s probably an overpay and could ruffle Gardner’s feathers if his deal is still unagreed when the figures leak.

If his agents play hardball (and they likely will), then the Jets might have to find a way to hit that $33 million number – not just for Wilson but for Gardner too. That might mean tweaking guarantees and incentives and possibly even giving one a four-year deal and the other a three-year deal and leave a gap in between completing one and then moving on to finalize the other just so it’s less possible to make a direct comparison.

Wilson should really be looking at that $31 million figure as a win. It would slot him into 6th place behind AJ Brown and above the trio of Tyreek Hill, Brandon Aiyuk and Amon-Ra St. Brown in terms of average salaries.

That would rely on him and his agents not playing hardball though, which as we know never happens, so be prepared for both deals to be at the top end of the $31-33 million range.

Non-jets: What are your top five TV shows of the past five years?

Such a difficult question, so I’ve placed the following restrictions on myself:

  • Any great show I watched over the past five years that was released earlier does not count (GLOW or Leftovers for example);
  • Any great show that finished over the past five years but began more than five years ago does not count (Undercover, Atlanta or Mr Inbetween for example);
  • Any great show that began over five years and is still ongoing doesn’t count (Line of Duty or Stranger Things for example); and
  • Any great show which is a Star Wars show doesn’t count, so we don’t have an all-Star Wars top five.

So, what’s left? Left out, on a technicality, is Ferry: The Series, which is terrific but as a prequel of Undercover (with two spin-off movies also on Netflix), I’m not sure it doesn’t breach at least one of the above conditions. It would otherwise be in there on merit though.

I’ve narrowed it down to (in no particular order):

  • Adolescence
  • Toxic Town
  • Winning Time
  • Reservation Dogs
  • The Dropout

Sorry, Shogun, you missed the boat.

Bonus: It’s not out yet but Sky TV’s The Iris Affair is my big tip for upcoming shows that rock in the next 12 months based on inside information. Rumor has it that this might ultimately end up being called “Iris”. (And, of course, “The Unrecorded Night” if that ever gets made but it sounds like it’s just going to be a book).

By the way, I’m not remotely satisfied with the above list and am probably going to immediately realize like three or four shows I completely forgot as soon as I post this.

Who on the Jets (players/coaches) would make the best Jedi and who would be the sith?

I can’t get away from Kai Kroeger which sounds like the most obviously made-up Expanded Universe-era Jedi name I’ve ever heard. Let’s assume he survived the George Lucas Purge and, since he’s a punter, give him special lightsaber fittings that attach to the side of his legs so that he can launch violent foot-based attacks by igniting the saber to slice your head off as he punts you in the throat.

Who the best Sith would be should ultimately come down solely to whose name sounds the best if you change their first name to Darth. Probably Tyler Baron. But let’s go in another direction so the big bad enemy can be Arian Sith.

non Jets – Who’s been the biggest heel on TJB/JF?

I’ve been stalked, spied on and doxxed during my time as the lightning rod for online disputes in this community and am reticent to mention anyone by name lest they reappear Candyman-style.

There is one that sticks in the mind, though, which was a long-term troll who was banned multiple times and kept coming back with new identities, the funniest of which was when he pretended to be a woman call JetsChick and acted like “she” was dealing with rampant sexism every time someone disagree with “her”.

What an ignorant slut.

Now that Josh Allen is married, will he stop trying at life and get fat, leading to his finally getting that injury everybody insists he will?

Like, a real injury this time that causes him to miss time? Or just a concussion that he and the team opts not to report to the league so he doesn’t have to enter the protocol and can lead his team to a win over the Jets instead of them having to start Mitch Trubisky?

Who knows?

How much baby oil could a P. Diddy diddy if a P. Diddy could diddy baby oil?

Wut?

Jets: Saleh was billed as a leader of men by Richard Sherman and others, but that turned out to be false as a HC. Can you compare Saleh’s 1st OTA’s to Glenn’s to give examples on how Glenn’s approach is different than Saleh’s as a reason for Jets fans to be hopeful that Glenn will be a true leader of men?

There’s actually no difference right now. At this stage in Saleh’s tenure, he was genuinely still popular and viewed as a player-friendly coach who would have his guys’ back when the chips were down in real-game, in-season situations. Glenn is viewed similarly.

Saleh started to lose the team before his first season was over, but there was a big roster turnover at the end of that season and he was able to keep the main veteran leaders on side. However, the fact he sided with the increasingly unpopular Keith Carter and Mike LaFleur damaged his relationship with the players and created a them-and-us environment in 2022. He then made a huge mistake by cancelling a day off right before Christmas, at which point he had completely lost the team as many players had already made plans and booked flights on that day. (Note: It’s quite possible, if not likely, that this decision was the result of a Woody Johnson tantrum).

Bringing in Aaron Rodgers was supposed to change everything and for a time had everyone back on board because the perception among the players was that it was now Aaron’s team, not Saleh’s. But, of course, he got injured and so relations between Saleh and the players deteriorated in 2023 and didn’t recover when Rodgers returned a shell of himself in 2024.

Glenn just has to make sure he doesn’t follow a similar path and doesn’t lose the team. There are one or two obvious lessons to be learned from Saleh’s missteps.

Non-NFL: Is Andor the best Star Wars related production ever?

I have them all ranked equal-first.

Jets: Do you think Fields has any chance of a Darnold/Geno redemption? If so, what growth was there in last years film that makes you think so?

Now that he’s a Jet, of course he does! It would obviously be after he joins another team, though.

The only thing that would prevent him from a Darnold/Geno redemption on another team is if he actually succeeds here, which we’ll all have to hope is a possibility.

Over the past season and a half (ie since the middle of the 2023 season when he missed a month of action) he’s been running less, taking fewer risks and winning more games while putting up lower numbers. To me, it looks like he’s becoming a more reliable quarterback who gives you a chance to win, but losing some of the exciting chaos that has created some of his best games and highlights during his career so far.

Essentially, they’re raising his floor but lowering his ceiling.

Non Jets: If you disregard allergies or intolerances you have, how many eggs do you think you can eat in one sitting if you had to eat as many as possible?

18.

I don’t know why, but I’m sure that’s the right answer. 17 seems too easy and 19 seems impossible.

I can actually eat eggs with no issues, but apparently you shouldn’t eat too many because they’re high in cholesterol. Also, while eggs cause me no harm in normal quantities, large quantities of anything are not ideal for me. In fact, I generally eat 7-8 times a day with small portions rather than ever having a full meal.

I generally have 2-4 eggs each day, usually just hard boiled, but sometimes fried or in an omelette. Could I each a week’s supply in one sitting? I think so, but I don’t think the next 18 hours would be much fun.

What are your thoughts on Darren Mougey’s approach to his first offseason?

My tendency is to keep an open mind in terms of evaluating the front office in terms of their roster-building process. That’s why I don’t grade drafts and if I am assessing a signing or draft pick, I try to do so from the perspective of why the move was made rather than worry about what other options were available instead.

So, I dunno – it seemed a bit conservative. So many one year deals and reclamation projects. I get the desire to be able to assess what you’ve got and reset at the end of year one without wasting too many resources but if a few of those reclamation projects pay off now they will be expensive to retain or replace and you could be back to square one in several positions.

What is your favorite meal to eat?

As noted above, I rarely eat a full meal due to my dietary issues but now and again I might have a full English breakfast with half the ingredients removed (I guess not so “full” after all) and I always have a roast chicken dinner with my friends a few days after Christmas. I also have a steak dinner once in a while, usually when I notice I’ve lost a few pounds.

When I’m in New York, I like to treat myself to a Paisa Patacon at Patacon Pisao on the Lower East Side. That just about avoids everything I can’t handle. So, that’s up there. And I even did a home-made version recently which turned out surprisingly well because I don’t really cook.

Before my digestive system had its Jets-style collapse, my favorite meal might have been quesadillas. I’d have to substitute like 80 percent of the ingredients to enjoy those now.

As for the WORST thing I’ve ever eaten, there’s no contest. Raw herring milts have an insurmountable lead. I’d rather eat 19 eggs in one sitting.

What is the status at LB? Is there enough with the departure of Mosley?

Since Mosley barely played last year, they basically have the same linebacker group we saw for most of last season. Although Sherwood won the Team MVP award, I thought this unit was inconsistent with Quincy Williams regressing as a result of not having Mosley alongside him.

Glenn has challenged Williams to improve this year and Sherwood needs to emulate and build on last season to prove himself worthy of the big-money deal he got.

Aside from those two, yes they’ve lost guys like Chazz Surratt and Sam Eguavoen, but I think those guys are pretty replaceable as hardly anyone has three linebackers on the field very often these days.

With that said, unless Sherwood and Williams both start all 17 games, the depth behind them is looking pretty awful. Hopefully Jamin Davis is an upgrade, Kiki Mauigoa is a solid draft pick or someone else takes a step forward as Sherwood himself did last year.

Who put the bop in the Bop-shoo-bop-shoo-bop?

I think the answer to that question is in this video at the 2:04 mark…

Jets related: Which of the current Jets do you think Juan Soto would enjoy eating the most and how would he have said player prepared?

Unless the Jets decided to trade for someone like Will Fries or Chop Robinson, he’d probably just decide to go to Will McDonald’s.

Non Jets related: Why is Juan Soto so old and miserable and fat?

I don’t know what all the fuss is about. I’m excited about his weight gain and I think adding those 15 pounds is going to make him all the more effective at setting the edge in the running game during the upcoming season. It’s just a shame it’s going to be literally impossible for him to keep the weight on.

Still to come: Larry Bird, Andor, WWE and even some Jets stuff! Part three will be up next Friday…
