It is unlikely the Jets re-sign DE Tarell Basham, according to SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano.
Basham, 26, is slated to become an unrestricted free agent. He’s coming off his best season yet, setting career-highs in forced fumbles (3), tackles (36), TFLs (5), QB hits (13), sacks (3.5) and defensive snaps played (734/64%).
Basham joined the Jets midway through the 2018 season after being waived by the Colts. He played in a total of 42 games for New York, showing promise as a situational pass-rusher for a defense that often struggled to get after opposing quarterbacks.
Basham also spent time on special teams for Gang Green.
Now it sounds like the Ohio product will have to find a new home this offseason. That shouldn’t be a problem following Basham’s career year.
The Jets, meanwhile, will have to make several upgrades and additions to their pass-rush. Luckily for them, they have the cap space to target some of free agency’s bigger names, in addition to adding through the draft.
