Media were in attendance today for the Jets’ practice, the final media-attended practice of training camp. Here’s what went down according to those on hand:
- Sauce Gardner did not practice;
- Allen Lazard and Isaiah Davis were in the rehab area;
- Braiden McGregor and Tyler Baron worked with the first team offense initially but then Jermaine Johnson and Will McDonald entered the fray;
- Kiko Mauigoa got some first team reps in place of Jamien Sherwood;
- The first play of the team period saw Quinnen Williams blow up a Breece Hall for a run with Alijah Vera-Tucker called for holding;
- The next play was a poor pass from Justin Fields to Andrew Beck in the flat that was tipped and almost intercepted;
- Fields and Hall then picked up positive yardage on a couple of runs;
- On 3rd-and-14, Fields hit Garrett Wilson who picked up the first down conversion down the sideline;
- Fields fumbled on back to back plays in the rain with Johnson and McDonald combining on the first one and Tony Adams on the second one;
- McGregor also beat Olu Fashanu for a sack;
- In a move-the-ball period, Fields completed a 10-yard pass to Wilson and shorter ones to Braelon Allen and Josh Reynolds and also had a 10-yard run. However, he also had four incompletions, including a Tyler Johnson drop;
- A diving catch by Mason Taylor was called back for offensive pass interference although the offense felt the call should have gone the other way;
- Fields led a 14-play drive that ended in a Fields to Wilson pass. On the drive, Hall had two nice runs, including one where he followed Fashanu outside. Wilson also had a 16-yard catch on the drive and Fields and Allen converted short yardage situations on the ground;
- Harrison Mevis did all the punting with Austin McNamara absent;
- The next drive ended when Fields’ pass to Taylor was intercepted by Brandon Stephens;
- John Simpson stepped out of drills and was checked on by a trainer;
- The next drive ended when they had to settle for a field goal because (Jermaine) Johnson beat Armand Membou for a sack with Williams also in on it;
- Fields had a 40-yard connection with Wilson but that one was ruled out of bounds. He then ran for a touchdown after a completion to (Tyler) Johnson;
- Adrian Martinez had a touchdown throw to Arian Smith, who came up limping; and
- The last drive of the day ended in another interception after advancing downfield with good running success.
Note: The Jets will conduct a walkthrough tomorrow and have a vets practice scheduled for the day after Saturday’s game, but the media will not attend these.
