Media were in attendance today for the Jets’ practice. Here’s what went down according to those on hand:
- Braelon Allen did not practice again and Quinnen Williams left practice after tweaking a calf muscle;
- In one-on-one drills Brandon Stephens broke up a pass intended for Garrett Wilson, who responded with a touchdown in tight coverage against Sauce Gardner. Garnder then responded with a break-up on Wilson. Arian Smith also got a catch against Azareye’h Thomas;
- Justin Fields hit a downfield completion to Josh Reynolds under pressure on the first play of team drills;
- Fields’ next pass was overthrown and intercepted by Tony Adams;
- Tyrod Taylor connected with Zack Kuntz after a play broke down but it was potentially a sack;
- Fields was then almost intercepted again, as Wilson had a bad drop that deflected to a defender;
- Deuce Carter had a pass break-up working against Breece Hall;
- Hall had a 10-yard touchdown run over the right side behind solid blocking and then scored again as Fields checked down to him under pressure;
- Eric Watts blew up a Hall run behind the line, forcing a fumble, and Quincy Williams also had a big hit on Hall;
- Fields’ only completion on his next series was a short one to Hall as he had one pass batted down and was sacked by Andre Cisco;
- Taylor threw a touchdown to a wide open Andrew Beck;
- Brandon Smith had another good day with multiple catches and good separation, including two touchdowns from Taylor, but was ruled out of bounds on another potential 7-on-7 touchdown;
- Isaiah Davis had a tough drop in the end zone on 7-on-7;
- Fields only managed to get the Jets in the end zone from the 10-yard line once in five tries in 7-on-7 work as Stephens made two good defensive plays and Mason Taylor had a drop. Wilson had the lone catch;
- Leonard Taylor had an impressive practice, creating plenty of pressure;
- Qwan’tez Stiggers had a couple of break-ups, including one at the goal line;
- On his next drive, Fields missed his first three throws with Stephens dropping a potential interception on an overthrow to Wilson but then Fields hit Mason Taylor at the back of the end zone for a touchdown;
- Tyrod Taylor’s next set was highlighted by a 20-yard touchdown to Stone Smartt. He was also picked off by Kiko Mauigoa (although that was probably a Rashad Weaver sack) and Arian Smith failed to hang onto a pass thrown behind him;
- Brady Cook threw a touchdown to an open Neal Johnson and Donovan Edwards made a nice catch for 20-25 yards from Cook, working against Zaire Barnes;
- Austin McNamara was impressive during punting drills; and
- Nick Folk marked his return by making six of six field goals including two from beyond 50, but Harrison Mevis missed two of six with one off the upright.
Note: The Jets will be in shells and focusing on third down work tomorrow, as they prepare for Saturday and the Green-White Scrimmage.
