Media were in attendance today for the Jets’ practice. Here’s what went down according to those on hand:
- Practice was marred by a late injury to third string center Gus Hartwig. The undrafted rookie had been trending towards a practice squad spot but went down with a leg injury;
- The team was in full pads for the first time and did a live tackling drill during which backup safety Jarius Monroe was a standout. Andre Cisco, Garrett Wilson, Tyler Johnson, Mason Taylor and Quincy Williams were all also successful;
- Justin Fields was a full-go as he returned to 11 on 11 action but he had an early pass deflected by Byron Cowart;
- Braelon Allen had a good run up the middle;
- Fields hit Taylor over the middle for a nice gain and Wilson for 20+ in 7 on 7 action against Brandon Stephens;
- Jeremy Ruckert was removed from the action after a false start;
- Undrafted rookie Payton Page once again impressed with a few plays in the backfield against backups;
- Isaiah Oliver broke up a pass down the field;
- Malachi Moore had a nice hit on Xavier Gipson and a physical downfield pass breakup on Malachi Corley;
- Austin McNamara impressed with his leg and directional accuracy in punting drills; and
- Harrison Mevis was perfect on six field goal attempts but Caden Davis missed one.
Note: The Jets should be back in pads again tomorrow morning for another practice.
