Training camp got underway today with media on hand for the Jets’ practice. Here’s what went down according to those on hand:
- Malachi Corley was among the previously injured players returning to action;
- To open the team drills, Justin Fields opened up with a short pass to Breece Hall on which he may have been sacked by Mike Clemons and then misfired downfield to Garrett Wilson. (Notable that Clemons was obviously starting with the ones to begin camp);
- Fields bounced back by hitting Wilson down the field for a deep touchdown, exploiting a blown coverage in the secondary;
- For the reserves, Jamaal Pritchett had a diving catch from Brady Cook and Tyrod Taylor hit Tyler Johnson in stride over the middle;
- Wilson had a leaping catch over Brandon Stephens in 7-on-7’s followed by another catch over the middle but Stephens bounced back by batting down a Fields pass on a blitz;
- Arian Smith also had a catch over the middle;
- Brady Cook hit Zach Evans on a wheel route;
- Fields dumped it off to Braelon Allen for decent yardage as Eric Watts created pressure in an uneven second 11-on-11 series;
- He did have one downfield completion to Josh Reynolds though and hit a tight window throw underneath to Wilson with Jamien Sherwood covering to reportedly end up 5-for-8 on the day;
- Allen and Hall looked good in the run game with Fashanu making a good block on Clemons on one play;
- Jarrick Bernard-Converse had a big hit on Pritchett, who responded with a 10-yard catch from Adrian Martinez;
- Taylor hit a 20-yarder down the field to Smith but then overthrew a deep ball to him;
- Corley dropped a pass thrown slightly behind him that was almost intercepted off the deflection;
- Deuce Carter had good coverage on an incomplete pass from Fields to Wilson;
- Will McDonald had a pressure (possible sack) on a Fields incompletion; and
- Xavier Gipson muffed a punt in special teams drills.
There was also one roster move:
Jets signed OL Samuel Jackson.

Jackson, a 325-pound guard, was undrafted out of UCF in 2023 but failed to make the Jaguars’ roster and ended up in the UFL. We’ll break him down in more detail next week.
The Jets also activated Boog Smith from the NFL list. There is no effect on the roster limits with such a move so the Jets remain at 91 with Leander Wiegand exempted from the 90-man limit due to his IPP status.
