The New York Jets have signed defensive end Michael Fletcher, continuing to add competition along the defensive line as they shape their 90-man roster heading into training camp.
Michael Fletcher (6’6”, 260 lbs) began his college career at Michigan State, where he appeared in 21 games from 2020 to 2022. During that time with the Spartans, he totaled 31 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks. In 2022, he played in eight games and started three, recording 13 tackles and blocking a field goal attempt in overtime against Indiana.
Following his stint in East Lansing, Fletcher transferred to Appalachian State. In 2024, he appeared in 10 games for the Mountaineers and posted 19 tackles (9 solo), 4.5 tackles for loss, 4.0 sacks, 6 quarterback hurries, and 1 forced fumble. He started eight games at defensive end and became a key contributor to App State’s defensive front.
A native of Flint, Michigan, Fletcher was a four-star recruit coming out of high school and brings a blend of size, length, and athleticism to the edge. His experience in two defensive systems offers versatility that could be valuable in the Jets rotational packages.
The Jets current defensive line includes several former first-round picks in Quinnen Williams (DT), Jermaine Johnson, and Will McDonald IV. Depth remains an issue, as Michael Clemons seems better suited at Tackle and not Edge. So Michael Fletcher will compete for a role this summer, aiming to earn a spot in the rotation or as a developmental player on the practice squad.
