The 2025 season will be another one that Jets fans wish to forget. After Sunday’s loss to the New England Patriots, New York now sits at 3-13. For those checking Tankathon, New York has a shot at finishing with a top-three pick. Despite the frustration, 2026 does offer hope with two top-18 draft picks after the Indianapolis Colts were eliminated. Additionally, it was a historic season for one player. Entering the final season of his rookie contract, running back Breece Hall was looking for a big season. Thankfully for him, he was able to reach an important milestone. One that hasn’t been reached in a decade. The New York Jets have many problems that need solutions this offseason. However, none of those struggles should fall on the shoulders of the talented running back.
Jets Running Back Breece Hall Reaches Team Milestone
The New York Jets have been a franchise that has longed for glimpses of hope amid a 15-year playoff drought. It’s been hard to find after another season picking within the top 10. With a lot of lowlights, there is one major positive that came from this year. Before 2025, the New York Jets had 18 seasons of 1,000+ rushing yards from their running backs. 50 years ago, a future Hall of Fame running back, John Riggins, achieved the first 1,000-yard season in 1975.

Since then, 13 seasons split amongst six different running backs took place. Nine years later, beloved running back Freeman McNeil became the first Jet with consecutive 1,000-yard seasons in 1984 and 1985. From 1996 to 2004, New York had nine consecutive seasons of 1,000-yard rushers. Back-to-back seasons from Adrian Murrell in 1996-1997. The other seven were achieved by Hall of Famer Curtis Martin from 1998 to 2004. In addition, Thomas Jones achieved the mark with three consecutive seasons between 2007 and 2009. In addition, Shonn Greene contributed back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2011 and 2012. The last Jet to achieve an 1,000 yard season was Chris Ivory in 2015. That was until Breece Hall this season.
Breece Hall becomes the Eighth Jet to rush for 1,000 yards in a season
Drafted in 2022, Breece Hall was selected from Iowa State University. Immediately, Hall made his presence felt with 463 rushing yards and five total touchdowns in seven games his rookie season. Sadly, it ended prematurely after suffering a torn ACL in Denver after the Jets beat the Broncos. After recovering from knee surgery, Hall once again showed why he was a top 50 draft pick. Hall finished his second NFL season with 994 rushing yards and 591 receiving yards. This was good enough for Hall’s first 1,000+ scrimmage yards in a season. Unfortunately, the over reliance from quarterback Aaron Rodgers, emphasizing the passing game, halted Hall’s progress in 2024. With the second-worst rushing offense in the league, Hall finished the year with 876 rushing yards.
Thankfully for him, new head coach Aaron Glenn brought in Lions passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand to be his offensive coordinator. During his tenure in Detroit, Engstrand assisted Ben Johnson in creating a dominant running game led by the star running back duo of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. During the offseason, Aaron Glenn emphasized his desire to rebuild New York’s running game with Breece Hall leading the way. Thankfully, it resulted in Hall having the best season of his career.
Breece Hall’s 111-yard game vs. New England clinches 1,000 yard season
Entering the Week 17 matchup with the Patriots, Breece Hall entered the game with 954 yards on the season. With Hall only 46 yards away from history, Breece Hall wound up rushing for 111 yards on 14 carries. This included an impressive 59-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. With one week left in the season, Breece Hall has 1,065 rushing yards to go along with 340 receiving yards. After not recording a touchdown the first seven weeks, Hall has five touchdowns within his last nine games. After the struggles from the quarterback play and Garrett Wilson‘s injury, Hall was doing everything he could to keep the ship afloat for the Jets.

Will Breece Hall stay in New York?
Entering this offseason, Breece Hall is about to become an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career. After another season of setbacks, it’s understandable for Hall to explore his options. A team like the Kansas City Chiefs will be looking to upgrade at running back when Patrick Mahomes recovers from knee surgery. Another option could be the Chicago Bears, who could look to add the star running back to help Caleb Williams as another receiver in the backfield.
However, the Jets have publicly stated their desire to retain Breece Hall. While no extension has been reached yet, there’s still optimism that New York can retain him. It’s unknown whether Hall will remain in New York in 2026. If he does leave, he’ll go out having achieved a major milestone no one can take away from him.
