Jets Rookie’s Success Is a Bright Spot in Tough Month

September 30, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Starting 0-3, the New York Jets are trying to figure it out. With their second division game vs. the Miami Dolphins merely hours away, the Jets have some good news with quarterback Justin Fields returning. Despite the loss to the Buffalo Bills in his last game, New York is optimistic Justin Fields can replicate his three-touchdown performance from Week 1 vs. the Steelers. Despite losing, some Jets fans have found optimism within this rookie class. Specifically, the performance of first-round pick Armand Membou. After selecting an offensive tackle previously in Olu Fashanu last year, New York has been pleased with their first-round pick duo at tackle.

Jets Rookie Armand Membou Has Been Impressive

Before arriving in New York, Aaron Glenn saw what the power of having a strong offensive line can do. After four seasons in Detroit, Aaron Glenn saw the Lions offensive line lead them to historic success on offense. Led by premier tackles Taylor Decker and Penei Sewell, both men did a great job elevating the pocket for quarterback Jared Goff. Soon after arriving, Aaron Glenn recognized the potential in the Jets offensive line. Within their interior, they had a promising trio with center Joe Tippmann and guards John Simpson and Alijah Vera-Tucker. Before the offseason, New York selected talented left tackle Olu Fashanu out of Penn State. Despite limited action, Fashanu displayed great pass blocking numbers at left tackle.

As a result, general manager Darren Mougey decided to complete the offensive line by selecting right tackle Armand Membou out of the University of Missouri. A three-year starter for the Tigers, Armand Membou displayed strong run blocking ability and became an important piece to the Tigers offense. He’s been able to enjoy an unusual benefit from the preseason as well. As a precaution to help Membou’s adjustment to the league, New York signed his college quarterback, Brady Cook. After starting three seasons at Missouri, the continuity between Cook and Membou at training camp is a nice boost for the rookie’s transition. While the Jets are winless, Armand Membou is not to blame. In fact, through three games, Armand Membou has been more than holding his own for the Jets.

Jets Are Benefiting from Armand Membou’s Pass Blocking

To open the season, Armand Membou had a tough task ahead of him, facing a talented Pittsburgh Steelers defensive line. Despite featuring a future Hall of Famer in TJ Watt, the Jets rookie right tackle more than held his own. In fact, of all the offensive linemen ranked in week one, Armand Membou was the highest-ranked lineman on PFF. Despite the offense looking lost vs. the Buffalo Bills and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it hasn’t stopped Armand Membou. In fact, he’s succeeding despite it.

Jets rookie Armand Membou now up to 8th in pass block win rate (96%) among tackles.

Through the first three weeks of the season, Jets right tackle Armand Membou has ranked eighth in pass block win rate among tackles. This has put the Jets rookie in elite company. The only tackles ahead of Membou are Garrett Bolles of the Denver Broncos, Penei Sewell of the Detroit Lions, Joe Alt of the Los Angeles Chargers, and Dion Dawkins of the Buffalo Bills. Keep in mind it’s less than a month into the season. However, these early results are big for the Jets regime. If Armand Mebmbou can prove his success is sustainable, it’s a big boost to the 2026 offseason as the Jets look to improve in Year 2.
