After staying quiet through the afternoon, the Jets made a pair of significant additions on Monday evening. The team agreed to terms with wide receiver Corey Davis, formerly of the Tennessee Titans, and edge rusher Carl Lawson, formerly of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Both players should be upgrades at key positions of need. The team needed to upgrade its group of pass catchers. Last year’s signing of Breshad Perriman was a failed experiment. The Jets also needed improvements to the pass rush. The edge has been a chronic need spot for over a decade. Lawson should help there.
The team also made some smaller scale moves agreeing to terms with former Lions linebacker Jarrad Davis and re-signing running back Josh Adams.
These moves alone will not fix the Jets, but they seem like necessary first steps. We talk about these additions on today’s podcast.
