Media were on hand for the Jets’ minicamp practice today. Here’s what went down according to those on hand:
- Malachi Corley did not practice and Arian Smith was also on the side working with trainers. Quincy Williams did not participate in team drills;
- In the first 11-v-11 session Micheal Clemons stopped a Justin Fields run for a loss and Jamien Sherwood had a sack;
- Fields also missed an open Mason Taylor down the field under heavy pressure;
- After being forced to punt, the first team offense did better on their next drive with Garrett Wilson beating Brandon Stephens twice on a crosser for big yardage after the catch and a 40-yard bomb over the shoulder near the goal line, although that play may actually have been a sack by Marcelino McCrary-Ball;
- Fields ended the drive with a red zone touchdown to Josh Reynolds who was covered by Andre Cisco;
- Malachi Moore was called for pass interference on Xavier Gipson but his fellow rookie Kiki Mauigoa had a sack;
- Brandon Smith came down with a jump ball with Azareye’h Thomas draped all over him in tight coverage;
- Will McDonald beat Armand Membou on consecutive plays – one inside, one outside;
- Fields drove the Jets from the 35 to the two-yard line on a situational drill with 28 seconds and a six-point deficit on a completion to Taylor and Deuce Carter pass interference but he threw incomplete from there as time expired.
- Caden Davis missed a 40+ yard field goal with the Jets reportedly trying out Rodrigo Blankenship and Harrison Mevis today; and
- Jamaal Pritchett had a great catch on a deep completion by Adrian Martinez.
