From the moment you learned that the Jets would be parting ways with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, there’s one word that you probably said, heard or thought. That word of course being “Purgatory”. Just six months after the team had Super Bowl aspirations, they’re back in quarterback Purgatory.
The Jets weren’t gone for long. For just two years they had a future Hall of Fame quarterback who was going to right all the wrongs of the past. The reward for putting up with years of the worst quarterback play in the NFL was going to be worth it with Aaron Rodgers on board. Until it wasn’t.
Rodgers was a Jet for two years on paper, but in reality it was one after a ruptured achilles after four plays in year one. And that one year, while better than what most Jets QB’s have produced in the team’s history in some statistical categories, was largely underwhelming.
The signal caller would finish near the bottom of the league in many key passing metrics en route to just five wins. So where do the Jets go from here?
New head coach Aaron Glenn said that the number one thing he wants in a quarterback is ” a winner”. Well, in looking at what’s available via free agency, trade and the draft, Glenn and GM Darren Mougey will have a tall task on their hands.
