New starting quarterback, but still the same old Jets. In what head coach Aaron Glenn called a “tough loss” to the Baltimore Ravens, the Jets dropped to 2-9 as Lamar Jackson and company coasted to a 23-10 win over Gang Green.
Both quarterbacks got off to a slow start with the teams deadlocked at zero when the first quarter came to a close. The Jets would draw first blood in the second quarter when Tyrod Taylor hit newcomer John Metchie on what was his second touchdown in as many weeks. The Ravens would counter with a field goal with under two minutes remaining in the half and then took the lead when Derrick Henry scored the first of two touchdowns. Baltimore would never look back.
Feeling the pressure with his team trailing late in the third quarter, Aaron Glenn opted to go for it on fourth down near mid-field and came up short, giving the Ravens a short field which led to a quick drive and touchdown number two from Henry. At that point it was 17-7 and you just knew the game was over.
The Jets wouldn’t score again and the Ravens tacked on a couple of field goals to wrap up the 23-10 victory.
There were some bright spots for the Jets as Breece Hall came back to life as a pass catcher, hauling in four passes for 75 yards, but that would be overshadowed by a lost fumble on the 1-yard line with the Jets trying to pull within a field goal as they trailed 20-10. Hall wasn’t as effective on the ground where he averaged just 2.8 yards per carry with 16 rushes for 44 yards.
With the late games yet to wrap up, this loss has the Jets sitting at pick 3 according to tankathon.com.
