As one would expect the day after cutting their roster down to 53 spots, the Jets have claimed three players who were cut loose by other teams.
Tight end Jelani Woods, offensive tackle Esa Pole and linebacker Cam Jones. Pole and Jones were both let go by the Chiefs while Woods was dropped by the Indianapolis Colts.
A monster target at tight end, checking in at 6′ 8”, Woods is a physical speciman whose biggest issue has been injuries. As a rookie in 2022 he hauled in 25 passes for 312 yards and 3 touchdowns. A promising start derailed by injuries has kept Woods off the field since that time. Two full seasons without getting on the field isn’t a great sign for future health.
Asked about his addition, head coach Aaron Glenn said he expects Woods to be able to help out as both a pass catcher and a blocker.
Meanwhile, Pole comes over for the Chiefs after an excellent career at Washington State following a preseason that saw him earn an impressive PFF grade of 84 as a pass blocker.
Jones gives Gang Green a linebacker who has appeared in 34 career games (2 starts) while racking up 36 tackles.
