In the first half it was all Falcons as the Jets sleepwalked through the opening parts of the game. The Jets offense put up absolutely nothing early on and the Falcons offense met little resistance on the way to a 17 – 0 Falcons lead early in the second quarter. An exchange of field goals closed out the half as the teams went into the locker room with the Falcons leading, 20 – 3.
The Jets came out firing in the third quarter. A long Tevin Coleman kickoff return gave the Jets great field position deep in Falcons territory to start the second half. A short Jets drive culminated in a Ty Johnson touchdown run. Matt Ammendola doinked the extra point and the Jets trailed 20 – 9. Neither team could get much going the rest of the third quarter and the Jets entered the fourth quarter still trailing by 11 points.
The Jets put together a long drive aided by a pass interference call and a long Denzel Mims reception to get a first and goal at the two yard line. The Jets then punched it in and converted a two point play to pull within three points midway through the fourth quarter. It was anyone’s game, but not for long.
The Falcons answered by marching right down the field for a touchdown, all but clinching the victory with a little more than two minutes left in the game.
A last gasp Jets drive resulted in a 49 yard Matt Ammendola field goal and a seven point Jets deficit. The ensuing onsides kick failed and the Jets had another loss.
This was a disappointing game for Jets fans. After a promising win against the Tennessee Titans last week, it all came undone in London. The pass rush was futile, the defense couldn’t stop anything until the game was all but out of reach, Zach Wilson was ineffective, and the Jets offense was nonexistent.
With the loss the Jets go to 1-4 on the year.
